Toyota dismisses James Sikes' runaway Prius.

Today Toyota has dismissed James Sikes alleged "Run-away" of his Toyota Prius. I can't imagine how much of a headache it must have gave Toyota thanks in no part of this guy's little episode. There's hoax written all over this incident, and I can't believe he tried to take advantage of Toyota's situation they're in. I mean, I'm pretty sure there's more out there, but none so more then this "high profile" case. Let's look at some of the facts:
1.) When James Sikes called 911, he failed repeatedly to follow the dispatchers advice of putting the car in neutral and shut off his engine claiming he was "Trying to control his car."
2.) After 2 days of testing after this incident Toyota revealed that his electronics were working fine only that his front brakes were worn due to overheating and his rear brakes and emergency brake were in good condition. Citing the rest of the car was fine, the automaker said — the gas pedal was not slowed by friction, the floor mat was not even touching the pedal, and a system that cuts the engine power when the gas and brakes are pressed at the same time was working.
Further tests on Sikes's Prius reportedly showed that the brake wear were consistent with intermittent braking, not constant hard braking.
3.) Convenient that he was behind payments on his car and have a accumulated debt and not only that but being in bankruptcy.
4.) Jame Sike's 2008 Prius is subject to floor mat recalls, not "Sticky accelerators."
Not only that, but he wanted wanted a new car as compensation for the incident. In the end, I'm glad Toyota has dismissed his bullshit of a story.

That right there did it for me when I read the story earlier today. I was sort of on the fence over this, I know my way around cars well enough to spot a bullshit story when I see one. But this was minorly plausible, till I read that. Buncha shit.

Some people will do anything to get free stuff, publicity, fame, etc. Good to see that he was shown to be a fraudster.

There was talk on the news though how the police officer disagreed with Toyota's statement.
The police officer who was going behind him said he could see the guy standing in his seat as if pushing down on something, and Toyota said how many times the break/gas petal had been pushed to get some sort of break system working. He had needed to push the gas and break petal down firmly to get it to work, and Toyota thinks he was pumping and doing it incorrectly.
The police officer stated that he saw no bucking of the car break lights going in and out.
I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota would be covering some shit up, however I think the guy is milking shit to its best. The wife made a statement including 'This has ruined our lives' What the fuck bitch?

I knew that e-throttles would not turn-out well. At first, it was about performance and throttle response [or lack thereof], and now we see safety concerns. Does nobody see anything wrong with a lack of direct mechanical link between you and the brake master cylinder? You have to ask the computer to slow the car, and it has to think and then acquiesce your request.
Perhaps fly-by-wire works in aircraft. But with fighter jets and airliners, we are talking about massively greater cost and potential liability (expensive military equipment or hundreds of lives, versus one car and maybe four people). Face it, automakers are never going to develop QC protocols as stringent as aerospace manufacturers. And now some of the European automakers are removing the direct link through the steering wheel?
Bah. Bah Humbug.

haha, after all, having your husband come out unscathed from a potentially death inducing predicament is akin to having your life ruined. Right?

I think it is obvious if this happened to you you'd want a new car. I think that is a no brainer. But I saw this guy on the news and you can tell he was just happy to be alive. Plus the police man was there helping him out and can back up his story.
Second, he stated from the beginning that he didn't plan on suing and still isn't suing toyota. So just because he wants a replacement car everyone has been sending him nasty letters about how he is a phony. That is probably why the wife is saying it ruined their lives. I remember that old lady who said during a McCain rally that Obama was a muslim. People sent her death threats even though she was just a senile old lady.

But still, they're just focusing on the material. be happy your husband didn't die (assuming it's true, who knows) And fuck all those who disagree with you. Cars are replacable, and evidently, the dude was behind on payments. Wasn't going to have it much longer anyway.
