US will no longer be a dominant world power..

I'm not too sure, because it'll all depend on how America deals with this recession and whether or not it's economic and foreign policy will change. It's ironic because I just recently read an article in the NY Times that was saying that the U.S. might not stay so super anymore. If the U.S. government doesn't start wisening up and change it's policies, than it's more than likely that USA will lose power. It'll still be a world player with pull, but not the reigning superpower.

it all depends on the American ppl to pick a new dude to solve all the shit that Bush screwed up.

Agree. US have been losing power ever since 10+ years ago. China the next big power.
All great power comes to its end.

Will America stop being a world power? Depends.
Will America stop being a world power in the next ten years? Doubtful.
Will America stop being a world power in the next one hundred years? Probably. But who really knows? In the next one hundred years, we may finally have flying cars. Or we may be living in colonies in space. If it's the latter, then fuck America!

America will stop be a superpower before the next president finishes his term.
-Our money is quickly becoming worthless because politicians (democrats&republicans) want to spend more than they intake.
-We borrow more money from China and other foreign countries without paying off our current debts which forces our money to depreciate even more.
-As the value of our money falls the prices on everyday goods and services will increase since it'll take more money to pay for anything.
- Our "production" is non-existent so our economy has become based on trading debt between people rather than actually contributing production (unlike china and 20th century America)
-Taxes are being raised (if not directly then indirectly on the people) which as any economist knows taxes choke off growth of an economy when it's growing but, now the economy is contracting and taxes will be raised to pay for the governments growing spending addiction.
-Programs like social security will suck up the all the funds the government intakes which will force politicians to either cut the program (which they won't do because Americans like hand outs) or leave it be and spend money they don't have and rack up even more debt.
I think the question should be "Will America undergo a soviet style collapse in the near future?"

We're losing our position at the top of the world already. We used to be able to boast having the highest living standard in the world, but now the UK has bragging rights. Now our money is worthless over seas, and we're leaning more and more to socialism >_>
Time to move.

Where are you moving to? So I can move there as well. The bright side is no matter where I move I'll know someone there.

Why move? If the government falls apart, it'd be pretty easy to pick up the pieces and form a new empire.
And, you know, not fuck it up.
Though, if that fails, I'm digging out my Russian Visa and scurrying back to Moscow.

I'm either going all out otaku and moving to Japan (Akiba district) or I'm hauling ass to the UK.
Wasn't it people in the UK that said America was going to fail eventually? And now they have the highest living standard in the world... ironic.
@Arizth: If the leader of that empire was to be any of the current presidential candidates, that wold be even more reason to gtfo.

I vote Japan since Akihabara (Akiba) would be an awesome place to live for an otaku. Do I detect megatokyo here? If so Capt., your Largo and I'll take the role of Piro. Feel free to get a rentazilla and rampage though downtown Tokyo.

IF things truly gets bad I'll haul ass to either following countries of my choice.. UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, Greece.
I guess it would happen in time as long Usa dont either pay off its debt or not get it's act together or. . . ah... who cares.
A spanking is good for any insolent people. I'm just aint looking forward to a real bad recession like the ones in past, it'll interfere with my ability to buy manga, etc..

Well, nothing is a dominant power forever, even Rome fell eventually. The advantage of the United states is that we are incredibly defensible. The United states, as long as we keep a somewhat capable military never has to worry about invasion because we're protected by such distances that an invading force would take days to arrive (except for Russia, which Sara Palin can see from her house). Also as a current world power, if we go down, we're taking everyone else with us, as evidenced by the current global economic crisis.
The problem is that were not doing anything to improve ourselves as a global power. we're doing nothing to re stimulate our economy, we're letting our infrastructure crumble and eventually collapse and we twice put the same idiot in the seat of power. hopefully the next president will learn from W's mistakes and actually think before he acts.

Ah, the surge of multinational corporations, offshoring, outsourcing, and foreign investment all coming back to bite us in the asses. I have to admit that Fiery_Penguin's assessment is quite accurate, but I wouldn't be that pessimistic about USA's ability to recover. Man, if I had a rentazilla, I'd take that thing and stomp right through traffic and buildings on my way to classes at college. That'd be fucking awesome.
I will disagree on thing. As far as I'm concerned, China will have a long way to go before it can become a real superpower. Economically-wise, yes, but that's just about it. It's government is shit, it's infrastructure is shit, the living and working standards are shit, the peoples' morals are shit (more from personal experience), the integrity and reliability of Chinese products and services are shit, etc. etc. I could rant on about how China would take a while before it ever became a superpower, but I'll save it for later - I'm tired.

The reason I believe China will become a world power is the fact that the country is taking steps to make itself a world power. Currently, The United States, Russia and China are the countries that can change the world in a single day. Also China is buying up American debt to keep us afloat (we buy their products). As of March of 2006, China held over $321 billion worth of U.S. Treasuries which are up from the $60 billion it owned at the end of 2000. In a single moment the leaders of China can snap their fingers and they can literally hold America by the balls. Sure, the Chinese economy will suffer a bit but, I'd sacrifice a little bit of my economy to remove a world superpower as competition.
Our leaders have dropped the ball on this and this is why our country is in such shape. Too many people running the government serving their own ambitions rather than serving the people. Until this problem is solved I doubt America will retain or return to being a superpower.

I never said that China wouldn't become a superpower, but it has to control its own personal bugbears before it can reach out and play on the world stage. China gets backbushed by too many things, like the occupation of Tibet and Taiwan (?), the persecution of falun-gong, the poor conditions that the majority of the citizens in China live in, etc. etc. It will have to prove itself that it can reform, and once China does that, I will no doubt it'll become the next superpower.

Imperialistic, attempting world domination, murderers, etc, etc, etc. Hell, even soviet Russia was a superpower once. You are correct though, China does have some work before it can claim superpower status.

Ah, but you're talking about the American reputation and foreign policy. China first should fix itself internally somewhat. Then the world's for them to play with. Then again, U.S. infrastructure at this moment is falling apart, but nowehere near the level of China where it's like 1% rich, 20% middle, and the rest is poor.

In the next 100 years we'll all be dead so it won't matter, lol
But on a serious note, it depends. Like all that's been said, if the USA changes it's current policies then there may be a chance to keep it as a super power.
