What is your opinion on plastic surgery?
0
Read the title tell me what you think.
And for my next question, if you have a loved one/friend that wanted to go through an operation, would you mind?
[if you mind that they are going to an get an operation performed]
My last question; how would you persuade them NOT to go through an operation?
My opinion is;
I don't really like the idea of changing one's self. Throughout my whole life, i was afraid of change, so I'm not really attracted to this idea.
If I had someone i knew to go through one then i would mind
I don't reallly know how to stop them :/

Just show them this picture, it stops most people.
This is what plastic surgery could eventually turn you into. It always starts with fixing a little problem and escalates from there until you're some weird unrecognizable monster. Naturally, this isn't always the case, and there are some people who desperately need some surgery due to some extremely unsightly defect. I just think that this stuff usually goes too far, and alot of people who look just fine the way they are feel the need to make unnecessary adjustments. Kinda makes me sick.

I think you should be able to get plasitc surgery if you want. I wouldnt but its not really my thing. I like the way I look so everyone else will just have to live with my ugly mug.
But I really dont think you should stop someone from getting plastic surgery it's their choice. Unless you think they dont really know what their doing and are just going a tough time in their life. trying to control something. I know a guy who had a sex change and he's much happier now. He used to be depresed all the time and everyone made fun of him but now he/she is much happier. And as big boobs to.
It's not about what you want think about what you think would make them happy.

I've thought about this at length before. In my case, I wouldn't since I'm happy with my appearance. I think, depending on the recipient's psychological condition that it could be fine or not fine. Let me explain what I mean:
Of course, there are all sorts of horror stories concerning cosmetic surgery but you have to consider that the disfigured people weren't mentally fit for surgery. M. Jackson is an extreme example. People like that get addicted to cosmetic surgery because it temporarily improves their self esteem, like drinking alcohol (just an example). Once the effect wears off, though, they'll go back to the mirror to find things wrong with themselves. The more surgeries they have, the greater the chance of things going wrong.
These sorts of people don't need surgery. They could be very attractive and not know it. They need to take self-help measures, therapy, drugs or a mixture of these.
Okay, so what about the other people who ARE in a good state of mind for cosmetic surgery? Those people see themselves as attractive and will be able to find very few things wrong with themselves both physically and mentally. They will have done all their research and asked all the right questions.
The most important question, I think, would be for them to ask themselves, "If the results of the surgery don't turn out well, could I live happily looking less attractive than before? What about with added health problems (e.g. collapsed nasal passages)? Is it still worth it?"
If they have leprosy or were horribly disfigured in a car accident then they're answer probably leans towards yes, however, if they have a well shaped but large nose then they will probably be reconsidering at this point. There are other reasons why it 'may' be considered an acceptable risk, though, such as when it's work related. Like it or not, looks are a big factor for people who have their hearts set on being actors, models or T.V. personalities.
Another thing to think about:
From The Jon Dore Show's episode Manly-Man. Very funny.

It's okay if a truck fucked up your face or if you got some dermatologic disease.
It's not okay if you just want to make your nostrils smaller.
I despise people who do plastic surgery just to look beautiful. They're lying to other people and they're lying to themselves. Kinda pity them because they can't accept who they are and get depressed because of it. And only thinking about outward appearance... that's shallow.

Basically what somesome said.
It's a splendid achievement that literally changes lives for fire/accident victims and such. The thing is that the usual kind of 'customers' are spoiled, rich bitches who start to hate the angle of their nose every 2 years and modify a crapload of other things while at it (why work out when you can have liposuction ?)
I wouldn't still mind that much though (only pity them for how shallow and weak they are) but the thing that pisses me off is that such people have far easier access to PS than those who truly need it. Hell - entire private clinics are build for them.
At least for now there's still a price to pay for a PS overdose but you have to wait till you're 40-50 for the surprises to reveal them selfs. Here's to you Jacko ...

There's already a thread about this:
https://www.fakku.net/viewtopic.php?t=6803
I'd say something, but my opinion of plastic surgery is already in that thread.

It has been brought to my attention that there is a similar thread concerning plastic surgery, as stated by ShaggyJebus.
https://www.fakku.net/viewtopic.php?t=6803
However, it would be a shame to lock this particular thread since there are quite a few postworthy replies made by the various members. Therefore, I would like everyone to focus on the two questions posed by the thread starter, in hope that the general direction of discussion will not be identical to the link above.
- if you have a loved one/friend that wanted to go through an operation, would you mind?
- [if you mind that they are going to get an operation performed] how would you persuade them NOT to go through an operation?

If my loved one was really big, I wouldn't mind if they got liposuction. I would mind, however, if they got their stomach stapled or something similar. If you need to staple your stomach to keep you from eating too much, something's not right, and I don't think surgery's going to fix your problem. Liposuction can at least remove the fat so the person doesn't have a heart attack while trying to lose the weight.
As for a nose job or anything similar, it was done because of a birth defect or damage caused by a wreck or something, I wouldn't mind. But if it was because the person didn't like the way they looked, though other people didn't mind, I'd bitch. A lot. And the first thing I'd say is, "Why would you want to throw money away like that?" I come from a family where we had food stamps, and we still went hungry at the end of the month, so I don't like unnecessary spending. Buying an mp3 player that costs over $100, that's up for debate, but spending thousands of dollars just so you can look a little better, when there's nothing wrong with you? That's blasphemous!
If a female friend or family member wanted to get a boob job, that would really piss me off. Tits don't have to be DD to get a guy's attention. And small breasts can be very attractive. But maybe that's the lolicon in me who's saying that. Either way, breast size isn't that important, especially when some guys prefer the petite breasts over the gigantic floppers that'll sag before the chick's 40. Plus, fake boobs don't look or feel as good as real ones.

To answer the first question. I think plastic surgery is a cheap way to get away from what you really look. There are some people who really need the surgery so I guess I have no problem with that. But when I look at Michael Jackson from when he was black and what he is now, he doesn't need surgery to begin with. He looks perfectly fine looking black, he looks screwed up now that he's white, more like a dead person look now.
For the second question. Well to be honest, no one I know personally so far has ever mentioned getting an operation to make their appearance look better. But if they wanted one, I would say that they shouldn't. To me, getting plastic surgery to make yourself look better is just getting away from the true you. It's like denying who you are. Of course there are those who need it for the right reasons like if you got face slammed by a truck or something but in cases like Jackson, a waste of money and time. If my loved one/friend argues why they shouldn't have an unnecessary operation, I would ask them. "Will you be truly happy denying yourself in the long run?"

But the issue is them not you it's what will make them feel better. While I dont really like fake boobs and what not. I like people for who they are not what they look like that should be the way everyone thinks in my opinion.
But if plastic surgery will make them happier and feel better about themselfs how can that be a bad thing?
Decisions about this matter should be left to the person and the guy staking them.

Everything comes at a price. If we truly love our loved ones or cared for our friends, then we have the right to give an opinion on it. Because we worry about their future well being, we tell them that it may be a bad idea to go through with the operation. Look at MJ, he's all screwed up now.
Sure plastic surgery may make them feel better, but what happens if they get second thoughts later on? It's too late then to go back. Your stuck with the way you look. Unless you want to become another MJ.
