I don't necessarily agree with the dropping of that bomb, but at that time, the president sought a fast outcome of the war with lesser casualty (Shortening the war means less soldiers killed and having to move the soldiers inland might have caused civilian casualties anyway). Without knowing the cause of radiation, Truman dropped the bomb. The end. Get over it.

To be fair, America took its sweet time when it came to WWII. Really, the only reason the US entered is because Japan attacked Pearl Harbor (which we were actually asking for). We may have "saved everyone's asses," but it's not like we did it because we cared deeply for the other countries. If we did, we would have stepped in as soon as shit started getting intense. Which was long before Pearl Harbor.

Of course, it wasn't necessarily the government that didn't want to step in. The American people themselves didn't want to go to war, for the most part. In that respect, the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor was a good thing, because it pissed off the American citizens, who then gave the OK to go to war.

Still doesn't make my statement false that America saved everyone's asses back then. Besides, even when our country wasn't at war, America was sending supplies such as food, weapons and other essentials that kept the war effort alive in other parts of Europe to fight off the German offensive.

That is the way I think we should return to. America just doesn't give a fuck about the world. Russia and or china could swallow up the rest of the world and America wouldn't give a flying fuck. We try to do good in the world and we are vilified by everyone even our own citizens. Just give up and not care. Which it has already been said before, its a catch 22. If we protect the world then we are the "terrorist", the "facist" or whatever. I am honestly tired of listening to every uneducated dildo out there claim we are the world's greatest evil but, when something happens everyone pisses their pants at the idea that America won't stand up and send it's youth to protect the other nations of the world.

I don't think we should just stop helping other countries but we should re-examine the countries we need to help and how we help them. In some cases we'd be doing everyone a favor (ourselves included) if we just didn't get involved. We certainly shouldn't be having a hand in other countries politics as we're clearly doing a rather shit job with our own.

Agreed. Fpod's Idea sounds good too, but if it seriously came down to it and we really wanted to help other countries, we should fix our own problems before doing so... Besides, if we help our own country, I don't think we'd complain about it as much either. One of the things I never got were those people who did a fund raiser to help the AIDS effort and dropping foods in areas in other countries. It's all fine and good, but how 'bout helping the people in your own country too?

Definitely. Right now, the finanicial market in chaos and the stocks are plunging like there's no tomorrow. I do think it's time America stopped wiping other nation's butts and lick our own respective wounds first. I mean, there's nothing wrong with providing finanical and humanitarian aid, but when a certain someone decides to go on a terrorist/WMDs warpath hunt, it's time we reconsider our foreign policy and hopefully change international outlook on the U.S. Ramsus, you're totally right. As an American citizen, I can personally give a shit about other nations' welfare, but the catch-22 that Fiery_Penguin mentioned is a total thorn in the side: damned if I do, damned if I don't. I believe it's time for nations to wipe their own asses and let the good ol' US of A to sit back and watch the international community unravel like spool thread. Then we can all laugh at their misfortune because they bitch at the USA. In fact, because our economy is going down, the entire world economy is going down; life doesn't get any funnier than that.
