What is your typical view on FRENCH ?

I think some French hates the American because of the cultural invasion they make, (McDonald and KFC everywhere, nearly all the programs on the TV are American too and it's the same for the music) so when an American talk to this type of French it's kinda normal the French don't want to speak English (and after all many of the French never learn English since we are surrounded by country with another language and we usually learn only one Language other than our maternal one).
Other French hates American because of the way they are depicted in your media, Rush Hour 3 for example or Benjamin Gates 2. I've learn about a movie based on Historical facts but they changed the bad guys from English to French, what's the point of Making an historical movie if you change one of the most important part ? :? And there are many other examples. You don't like the way we speak of you ? Well it's the same.
Many of you have talked of won and loss in war. We've a pretty long history (It's a bit complicated to determine exactly the start of each of our history, but we can put it that way: Francia=1204/U.S.A=1776) so we've won many wars and lost many too. But let's think a bit about Your war history.
-The independence war: You won but with the help of the France (Do you remember Lafayette ?)
-The Mexican war: You won, nothing to say.
-Secession war: Well, internal war so we can't really say you won.
-World War I: You come to our help and we won as a whole, and after all you had to repay Lafayette ^^.
-World War II: You didn't really come to our help this time, you take part in the war as a result of Pearl Harbor and once again we won as a whole.
-Cold War: This one is difficult, it's not really a war in the way we think of it and it's pretty messy. But the capitalism won against the Communism, well we were ally back then too, so we can say that once again we won as a whole.
-Recent wars: They pretty much work as a whole since they are wars again terrorism and it's not finished, so we can't say who is the winner.
In the end we can see that France won many wars as your ally, you may think that we won because you helped us, but maybe it was the contrary or we had equal part in the result. So don't say we're sissies that never win if it was the case, you should have lost most of your wars since we were here spreading bad luck all around  .

French history goes back a bit further than early 13th century. I would have to say a close approximation of French history after the collapse of the Roman empire would be about 6th-7th centuries when the French discovered the value of mounted soldiers by defeating the Turks at the battle of Poitiers, and also led to the creation of the feudal system. (I know by stating this fact i am acting hypocritical to my last post, but you don't know that do you )

During the Mitterand years, and perhaps the first Chirac presidency, I used to hilariously glorify France. Even felt tempted to move there, heh.
I still think of the french (middle class) as extraordinarily refined, well-educated, cultured, secular and laid-back, although even five minutes in paris rush hour traffic, or attending a FN rally, will prove me wrong.

Good point. I wasn't critisizing the French or anything. Hell, I hate most Americans myself. Also, I feel the need to point out I never made any comment about the French loosing any wars. Anyone ever heard of the Gauls? One of the "barbarian" nations that contributed to the fall of Rome. They were from parts of what is now called France.

My impression of the French (mostly from what I've heard) is that they don't like Americans and they make good food...

I think the French make good wine, and they have one of the best picture spots in the world (I wish I can go take pictures) and I would be a dead man without French bread. XD

I already mentioned this but Napolean was actually CORSICAN....not FRENCH or AUSTRIAN. Hitler however was Austrian.
