So SD has been stagnating a bit recently, and there hasn't been that many new ideas being discussed so I guess I wanted revive an old thread. I decided it would be best to simply start fresh without all the previously posted opinions because I want to hear from the new generation of fakku user. This is what the original thread creator posted, tell me what you think.
After reading the announcement regarding forum policies and behaviour of readers,I've decided to open up this thread. Perhaps somewhere along the lines of this thread ,we could find a way to make Fakku a better forums that it already is? :D
Now back to the topic, what do you think makes a good forums where it remains active and has a big load of loyal fanbase?
I'll start the ball rolling...
IMO,a good forums is where the content it provides, helps people out. It can be under anyone's terms, whether it be that big hard boss you cant seem to beat in Halo or Metal Gear Solid, or techniques, tips and tricks relating to say, technology or gardening. The scope to talk about is virtually endless though I dont think its a good idea to have too many topics to talk about.
The second would be to have constant helpful replies made to threads and general regulation from the admins and mods.Applaud those that contribute intelligently to a discussion and punish those who cuss and hiss extremely for the smallest of reasons.
Now in terms of Fakku,to me,i think that it would be great to have weekly themes of something in every different category of the forums, much like the MOTEMOTE Character battle section.
For example.under the "videogames" section, maybe a mod or admin could start a new thread that concentrates on an individual genre or game. From my POV,this could help fans of the genre or game discuss the common interest and also help entice newbies to learn more. the way I see it,this helps out everyone :D . It could be done as per "stickied thread" so everyone can see it and removed, the week after. I think this helps people to have something to look forward to each week.
Now,the dear admins and mods ,as well as the main contributors of the forums are doing a SPLENDID job in keeping the forums alive. This thread is just for me to express opinion,it is in no way an indirect attack at fakku of any sort. Also keep in mind that my opinion may not agree with yours, and heck,it shouldnt matter to you anyway.Everyone has their individual opinions right?:)
Lets crack our brains people! :P
it's not quite my opinion but it should be a good starting point for a discussion. If this idea fails I won't do something like this again.

idk what this means.... too many big words.
discussion on the subject in question, and debate on say subject, without trolls(unless their funny and helpful)

I think before there is any real discussion on what would make a good forum or not, most of the bugs in the current one need to be resolved.

I think before anything can be tackled in Serious Discussion, the bugs and and other annoyances in Fakku's systems right now need to be resolved. Second, there needs to be a moderator for just Serious Discussion. The current staff is too busy with either their lives or other concerns on Fakku because Serious Discussion is not getting the attention it deserves. There are multiple topics that simply don't belong in the forum and people who are purposely (whether trying to be funny or just be an asshole) derailing topics.
I think if those two concerns were dealt with than Serious Discussion would actually see a return of such topics without having to "force" the issue at hand.
It's better than having multiple topics regarding the same, or even similar issues. There are countless threads about religion and Atheism, that could be spliced into one, maybe two threads. Nothing wrong with posting in a topic that hasn't been posted in for a long duration of time as long as you have something meaningful to say.

Or maybe those type of topics should just be stickied up in SD since they come up so often.

Is there a request moderator?
Could always kill two birds with one stone and appoint one for both those since having a mod for just one seems a little bit of a waste if you're going to appoint a specific one.

Darkstar is the Requests Moderator, but that surely takes up a quite a lot of time as well. I mean I could be wrong and there is a current staff member who would have the time to take care of Serious Discussion, but judging by the state of things I'm not assuming that is the case.

Or maybe a global moderator whose main focus is SD, but can help out with other areas as well.
That way it wouldn't be a waste.

This actually isnt a bad idea... more events would be fun, something like this motemote thing, everyone gives his vote for a character(male or female) who he likes the most and the votes will be displayed. This could be something besides the waifu game and it could also be held every 4 months or such to make the event more frequent. If fact any kind events of more frequent events would make the sections more lively.

You are required to think for at least 10 minutes beforehand about what you're going to post.Is that implied to me?

Although I tend to spend most of my time in the General Discussion, Anime Specific and Manga Specific sections, I will try to make it a point to visit Serious Discussions more often, since quite a number of users are calling for more moderation.
I have to admit that quite a number of "less-than-serious" threads have been appearing in Serious Discussions. Most of them have been moved to their appropriate sections. It is definitely a shame to see Serious Discussions go down a road of decline (if any), as compared to the days where it consisted of mind-provoking topics. Perhaps it is time for a big clean-up?

A big clean-up, then maybe sticking up some stickies of the more common discussion topics, such as Religion, Politics and so on.

to be honest this section doesn't really need it's own moderator; it doesn't see enough traffic yet.
the bugs don't prevent us from having good debates or conversations.
I'd like to know what you think makes a good forum, not what SD needs.

First of all, I am wondering if there should be trolls in a forum because some users said that we need them for some reason and I'm not sure why.
