When you know you are an adult?

There are two types of ways to look at adulthood. The first is "chronological" while the other is "mental". Once you reach chronological age, you're expected to know (mentally) how to behave around others. Unfortunately, some adults never mature and use their chronological age as an excuse to do stupid/selfish shit. I'm guilty of that, but I blame it on my mental disorder.

in my opinion, you are reach the point of adulthood, when you no longer look to the future saying "I can't wait till I'm ...." and start looking at the past saying "I wish could still...".
In other words I think you become an adult at the point when you regret not being a child anymore.

I think it's once you've learned to be completely independent. Once you've left the nest and started living on your own, taking on the responsibilities of truly living in your own home.
I feel like I haven't really become an adult yet because I still live with my parents. Granted, I've still got a year and a half of college left, so I'm not too worried about that. Once I graduate and find a well-paying job, I'll be able to find my own place.

I hold myself to this:
You are an adult when you start preparing for those who come after you.
Wether it's by babysitting, or reading, or raising a child, or just giving advice, when you consciously decide and feel a mix of responsibility and love for those who will come after you, you start to do what you were created for: preparing for the next generation of our species~.
It's a mentality, not a technicality.

When the time you realize that you live just to support your family and gain more money, that's the time when you realize that you are an adult.

Perhaps when you learn to be independent and accept the fact that you can't have everything your way. When you learn to cope with your problems and live by yourself.

An adult is a human being or living organism that is of relatively mature age, typically associated with sexual maturity and the attainment of reproductive age. In human context, the term has other subordinate meanings associated with social and legal concepts; for example, a legal adult is a legal concept for a person who has attained the age of majority and is therefore regarded as independent, self-sufficient, and responsible (contrast with "minor"). Adulthood can be defined in terms of physiology, psychological adult development, law, personal character, or social status.
Legally it means that one can engage in a contract. The same or a different minimum age may be applicable to, for example, parents losing parenting rights and duties regarding the person concerned, parents losing financial responsibility, marriage, voting, having a job, serving in the military, buying/possessing firearms (if legal at all), driving, traveling abroad, involvement with alcoholic beverages (if legal at all), smoking, sex, gambling (both lottery and casino) being a prostitute or a client of a prostitute (if legal at all), being a model or actor in pornography, etc. Admission of a young person to a place may be restricted because of danger for that person, concern that the place may lead the person to immoral behavior, and/or because of the risk that the young person causes damage (for example, at an exhibition of fragile items).
The legal definition of entering adulthood usually varies between ages 16–21, depending on the region in question. Some cultures in Africa define adult at age 13.

Not to be confused with maturity:
Maturity is a psychological term used to indicate how a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctive, and is not determined by one's age. Maturity also encompasses being aware of the correct time and place to behave and knowing when to act appropriately, according to the situation and the culture of the society one lives in.
If you are a legal adult or not define the laws of your state according to your age. Regarding this topic the question should be changed to "when do we know that we are mature (enough)?"

Legally: When you're 18.
Mentally: When you know you've went through enough hurdles and problems and have gained enough experiences, knowledge and maturity.

When one person becomes eighteen. Honestly, I don't believe in this adult mentality crap or whatever. There is maturity, I believe that, but adult mentality? no I do not.
