Why does it seem like the pencil is replaced by tablets?
-1
My Buddy Uses a tablet and is a new person to drawing period.
He uses a tablet and i use pencil. Why does it seem that when he does chicken scratch and i go to the ends of the earth to perfect my work and all people who critique us seem to have a stronger liking to his work?
I am thinking of selling half my blood to buy one!
Because its just a very Unfair thing for my work to be un-liked so much.
I will give you a good example. later on.
But, now to the points.
1.Why is it the tablet is being far more essential than a pencil and paper!
2. How comes all the artists of today complain that pencils are being over thrown by tablets?
3. Is it possible to salvage the once amazing love of the pencil(in learning to draw)?
4.Why don't i get 12000 comments and 3000 favorites like him.
(Oh! i refuse to post his DA but i will mine and tell me what you guys think. Please comment my work.)

You're barking up the wrong tree here.
This is the SD section, where intellectuals gather to talk a lot about something. You won't get far here with so much jargon, as a guy like me would have no idea what you're saying.
Try getting thread moved to Arts and Graphics section? You may benefit from an increase in knowledgable posters.

You may be looking for support in the wrong venue. some people online could be bias against pencil and paper art just because it's not 'digital'.
i recently wanted to get a roll of film developed, and the clerk made some coment about digital cameras being better. but it could be he was just pissed because developing film takes more effort than printing from a memorey card.

Digital art has control z. This makes for easier correcting mistakes. Digital also makes for easy manipulation, storage, and sending over mail, so commercially digital is simply more convenient.
However, if you think your friend gets more comments and views simply because he uses a digital medium, you're mistaken.

Deviantart is just a giant popularity contest, don't sweat it so much. Your work is really nifty but some kid tracing naruto will always have you beat. My DA is a concrete example I have a widely varied body of works that I think are ok, nothing special but I took my time on most of them and tried my best But 2 pieces of k-on fanart that I spent maybe 10 minutes (I said 40 on DA, but this is fakku no need to BS here) on tops got more views comments and faves than my entire gallery before them.
If you want page views the 2 fastest routes are fanart and the thumbnails subforum. But is that what you want to be popular for? Refining your skill and pulling fans because they genuinely like your work takes a while but is far more satisfying in the end imo.

You ahould probely move this to random or something.
SOrry I dont know what you mean by tablet. When I draw I tend to use pencil or Pen, I prefer pen since pencil doesnt have the look I want.
Your artowrk seems interesting but there seems to be something missing.

Personally I thought it was a reasonable question.
For a while I was negative to the idea of all the tablet rant.
thanks for the coment.

Since this isn't the pat my back forum I'll be blunt and say that I did not like your work and therefor I don't find it strange that you don't get 12000 comments and 3000 favorites like your friend.

Well tablet is better for many reasons.
1. Ctrl Z, if you screw up with a pencil it is hard to fix it.
2. If you suck like me it leaves behind evidence for other people to find. While with a tablet you can just leave it on your computer for no one ever to find. ;)
I'm going to get a tablet soon and see what I can do. For now my work is just to shameful.
Personally people who use pencil will always be the better artist. Even if I don't like the work.

So, according to what you say, Because its an easier way to make a quick fix to ones work with out residue makes person like the tablet more.
I hope you do get your goal. Thank you on your reply to artist who use pencil vs. Tablet.

I don't know why, but I do believe it is because we're in a digital age. Painting is a lot easier, but more complicated digitally and so is drawing. But, being old fashioned I really prefer pencil than tablet, even if I did buy one, and use it rarely.
My work isn't the best, shoot I felt so demeaned when I spent 8 hours on a contest I didn't even win :/ First place was a great artist, second and third were by the same person! And that just shot me in the chest real bad. Then my teacher called my piece "obscene" and that was worse. So my work is morbid, I have a positive outlook on everything else but fire prevention :/.
So I can understand how you feel when it feels like we're losing to digital artists, who major in the tablet as a lifestyle. But there are always things Tradi artists can do that Digital ones can't :], and it's easier for us to go back and forth between them.

It's unfair to make a decision based off only half the story.
Post your friend's DA (or examples of his art) and you will get a serious response.
As for digital versus traditional...
I'm very fond of digital artwork, and I tend to do that in my spare time more than I spend on traditional art HOWEVER I am attending a fine arts school for my BFA and I disagree with your thoughts on digital art being highly more accepted than traditional. There are still plenty of artists out there who don't touch the digital world and get more attention and credit than digital artists.
While we as humans strive to make things easier for ourselves and in some ways digital has pros that traditional mediums do not I think it is unfair to say that "digital is an easier medium than traditional."

Medium does not define art.
Pencil v. stylus is marble v. porcelain is watercolor v. oil is piss v. shit.
Perhaps your friend's "chicken scratch" is easier for the bystander to relate to. Perhaps art isn't meant to please the masses. Perhaps you should be tolerant of other's approach, dabble in whatever you can get your hands on, and build your own method in lieu of confining your expression to graphite and pulp.

Ugh, I'm an artist too and I have yet to buy a tablet because If I get one, I need the ones with the monitor built in that's huge because I can't work on a small, crappy one that I'll have to replace after a year. >__>;;
But anyways, I've tried out a small tablet before and it was really weird. Probably after I get used to it I'd like them more, but it's a lot more handy than scanning pencil sketches and then doing the line art in another program. However, a lot of traditional graphite work, pencil shading, and such can't be achieved to the same extent with a tablet, so I think it depends on what look you want to achieve.
For artist's popularity, sometimes more people might like a certain style over another artist's. It just happens, but it doesn't mean that one artist is not as good. :3

There is a moral to this story.
Ah... i seem to comprehend your response a bit. It seem to me others miss understood why I posted that. It's not a jealousy factor, more why does it seem when things are done with a tablet and then another is with pencil people like the tablets work better.

You know it!
Scanning is a bother at times cause then I have to do a batch load of cleanup!
Pencil has a true effect don't you agree!
I wont be after popularity as yet till i get what i require out of my work.

A matter of preference? Also, there is a lot of videos on the youtube of people doing awesome stuff with their pen tablet, adding a lot of effect when you can actually see the drawing getting done. Also, I disagree that some things cannot be done with a pen tablet like you would with a real pencil, in fact, there is nothing that can't be done (or made like it looks exactly the same) with a tablet compared to a pencil.
