Your Job - "What days count as Holiday pay?"

Well I was looking at my pay checks throughout my employment at my current job, and I was wondering what days does your employer consider as holidays? I am quite sure that here in the USA working on a holiday warrants you time and a half pay, and I would imagine your employer wouldn't like the idea of having to pay you more. So what days count as these rare "time and a half" days?
Myself, I am not entirely sure, but I do know that apparently (these are USA Holiday by the way) Memorial Day, and Veterans Day are NOT holidays according to my employer >_> I don't get any extra pay for working on these holidays. Which I really don't like and wish I could protest against. My old employee considered those days as holidays.
So what about my fellow fakku members? (who have a job that is)

Part time at one job where i don't get holiday pay. I'm self employed so yeah... all days are holiday's.

Hrm, it might be a state by state basis for if an employer are required to pay you time and a half.
I know in my state that employers are not required to pay you time and a half, or give you holiday pay if they require you to take it off.
Just plenty of them do because it keeps employees happy if they are forced to work holidays or not given the option to work them.

I'm on salary, so if they ask me to work, I don't get paid an extra cent.
When I start running my own, I'm going to pay my guys extra any and every day. Including MLK day, Black Friday, Armistice Day, Repeal Day, etc.

I can't tell if you're serious or not.
Cause if you are, you'll learn real fast as an employer just how much that actually costs.
Either that, or you'll put yourself out of business fast.

Work for my parents with our family company, but since my job is for the feds (EPA to be exact), I don't really take off for holidays, then again I only work like three days every other week...

That was until they passed a new bill over here (Australia) forcing all employers to increase wages and increase pay on public holidays. So now we get paid extra on all the basics over here:
- New Year's Day
- Australia Day (26th January)
- Labour Day
- Good Friday
- Easter Monday
- ANZAC Day
- Foundation Day
- Queen's Birthday (I swear there are like 3 of these a year)
- Christmas Day
- Boxing Day
There are more than that, but thats all I can think of at the moment.

Wow, lucky there, so far I can only think of 4 days that count as extra paying days. I need a different job T_T
Also I am noticing not a trend based off people who have posted here, not a lot of people with regular 8hr a day jobs at X company, you know the "weekday warriors" the "9-5's"

Well..I have a few jobs ,but the one's that actually make me a bit of money are things where I go in for a week to a few months ,and gtfo. So I usually get most holidays off.

Canada Day (July 1st - if July 1st falls on a Sunday, July 2nd replaces it as the statutory holiday)

Christmas Day (December 25th)
(p is gross earnings, t is wage, h is hours worked and n is the regular amount of money that would be earned that day.)
If working hourly:
p=t*2.5*h
If working for a salary:
p=n*2
I work hourly, I am a night-shift soldier. Anywhere in-between or exactly 5 PM - 4 AM are the shifts I work regularly. I almost always work holidays because I don't celebrate most of them. My family, those of us who are Atheist anyways, do not believe in succumbing to what has basically become labeled marketing ventures.

Maybe it has something to do with most of the people here being in the young adult bracket as opposed to people with established 'lives'.

And we get higher weekend pay (x1.5?) very lucrative when you're a casual. Unfortunately you're pretty expendable.

Holidays are NOT required in any US state I know of, they are entirely optional and as such differ from employer to employer.

Unfortunately, I don't get Holiday pay. Either where I work is strategically closed that particular holiday for this very reason, or they simply don't count the day as a holiday... one way or another, it does not benefit me.

This varies from company to company. Christmas and Thanksgiving are the only two that go without question. Some companys also give new years day, and the 4th of july

However, due to the recent economic woes, some local companies have scrapped the overtime policy, which means individuals will still be paid their usual rate. Some may claim that it is unfair to employees, but for those who wish to keep their positions, they will most probably accept the change, albeit reluctantly.
In most cases, employees will be compensated with an extra off-day if they are scheduled to work on a public holiday.

I work in Michigan so my job is union. They help with stuff like that, but for holidays we not only get the day off but we get holiday pay for the day for 8 hours, which is time and a half but if we work the day it's double time. But on the flip side there are entry of things that are bad with being in a union. Without going into a rant I will sum it up like this. Some of the people here use it as a safety net of how much can I get away with and not get fired. So I have the good with the bad, in no way am I trying to endorse unions or gloat about being in one.
