Your mind and your dreams

Did you know there's a phenomenon where you wake up at night, but your frontal lobe is still partially asleep? Now, the frontal lobe is where most logical thinking comes from, so in this state, you feel awake, but logic doesn't work at all. In one case, a man would wake up every night and tie a knot in his curtains. He even explained his reason: "That's where they come from, but when you tie up the curtains, they can't get in:" The man was otherwise perfectly sane and healthy.
I myself sometimes experience similar states at night. It's not so bad usually, but sometimes I also feel an inexplainable feeling of.. well, anguish, I guess. That really sucks while it lasts, but luckily it's only happened twice.
But, anyway, I just wanted to scare you a bit ;). Think about this the next time you don't remember turning off your alarm clock.

What I'd like to know is if it can generate pain that has yet to be experienced by the person. For example, if I have yet to experience being shot, would my mind be able to accurately generate the pain in a dream?
I believe that if you hear a description of pain that you register as being the pain felt, your brain will use that description. Like with being shot a friend of mine who has been shot said that it felt like a red hot iron went trough him. Ever since every time I get shot in my dreams(it happens alot) it feels like the spot i was shot is on fire, whereas before hearing that the pain felt like someone punched me. And besides if you remember, every time someone got really hurt in the Matrix they would start coughing up blood in the real life. It's just like morpheus says when neo comments on how real the Matrix seems "Because the brain makes it real"

I once had a dream where I was slowly being eaten from the feet up and was desperately trying to kick what was eating me, and then woke up kicking my dog repeatedly and thrashing around in my bed.
I also had a dream where I rode Lugia to the land of the dwarves where they taught me ancient techniques in the art of picking up women and then on the way back I had to ride through a gigantic volcano where Pixar characters were attacking me as I tried to pick up chicks.

Your body probably probably didn't relax your muscles during your REM sleep and you thrashed about a little bit in bed, thus getting that pain you had. I'm no doctor, so I'm most likely wrong though.
In any case, I have had one dream where I had a few physical happenings to me.
It was actually Christmas Eve a few years ago and I went to bed with my Nanny at her house, I crawled into her bed with her - since my brother had the TV on downstairs (there's 2 couches, and I can't sleep with the TV on) and it's extremely dark in her room.
I had a dream that someone had me blindfolded (I told this to Fakku before, but I don't think you were around when I did) and I heard a man laughing and I was also gagged so I couldn't scream - but I was trying to anyway, it was just muffled. In my dream I knew I was going to die, it wasn't a fear, I was positive that I was going to.
Apparently, while I was screaming a muffled scream in my dream, I was screaming physically in bed, scaring the living shit out of my Nanny. She shook me awake and when I woke up and saw nothing but darkness, I screamed again truly horrified because I thought the dream was real and I really was blindfolded.
She had to get out of bed and turn on the light before I'd stop screaming in hysterics. After my brain realized it was a dream I started crying and my heart beat was going crazy, I was shaking and sweating as well ;p
That's the only thing that's ever happened to me though dream wise.

Never had a "Hurting" sensation after "hurting" myself in a dream. The only thing I've experienced that is close to that is reacting after I get hit or fall in my dream.

Spoiler:
Holy shit... Awesome read man!
I remember once dreaming that i was falling at rapid speed, so fcked up. I actually rolled off of my temporary matrass and just lay there, clamping myself as small as possible, panicking the shit out of myself till i opened my eyes and began to pay attention.

Your head can actually affect your body in a lot of ways. Either in a positive sense like with meditation or in a negative way like with these kinds of nightmares where your brain sends signals to your body as if its under real attack making it respond and get stressed, or over stressed. Hope you'd get less of it.
Thinking about the dream itself, guess its like youre trying to go for something really good in life and you dont mind just going up even if it seems its too risky, like failing and ending up with nothing.

Well, from what you're saying you could have just had some spasms from the intense dream. I now my wrists and feet feel like their burning when I die in my dream because I was most likely clinching my fists and such.

hhmmmm, strange. I feel the same way. I always dream and wake up all sore if i was fighting in that dream and i feel all weak and sweaty when i dream of being cahsed by people or paranormals.

I heard a rumor that if your dream of falling of a cliff (im pretty sure everyone has had this dream) that if you hit the ground you die in real life (I never hit the ground so i wouldnt know ^^;)=w= like the matrix "the body can not live with out the mind" I mean what do you call brain dead right?
Lately ive been having very vivid dreams, almost movie like.....
(hahaha I had a dream when i was like 5 years old about 9/11) its weird how you can forget most dreams. yet certain ones you may never forget (I got like 7 of those) and some times you have these dreams over and over and they change a bit over time
latest one i was trying to catch the a murderer and when i cought him i didnt turn on the light (bcuz when you did they vanish somehow) so i ate him (bcuz if you kill them normally they just come back to life) and the next morning (in the dream) had a voice (monolouge) speaking really fast almost backworks. then had a over head veiw of a garage with body parts all around (i threw some parts back up) and it was the body of the devil (gost like and grey fur) and had a trash can filled with water. stuff moved inside and up came a head (tries to bite me) it felt like i had the dream before (atleast the last part)
got other dreams (keepingg secret bcuz i want to make a movie of them one day =w=;)

I refer such events as "mindfuck".
There was many of such similar events that happened to me.
4th grade, my family stayed over my granny's house with me alone to hog the popcorn and tv. Hours passes and sleep got the better of me, horrible.
I dreamt of my mother caning me with a thin stick of wood, heck it waws pain as hell. One lash after the other, she looked at me as if i was a cultist of sorts. I struggled in the room of 4 walls, no doors whatsoever as i run corner by corner to dodge the lashes.
I was awoken up by someone, apparently by the tears i was shedding when asleep. A sharp pain was felt on my legs ( had a blanket over them) , i removed the blanket to find faint lines of red on my legs, many of em.
Mind fuck.

Ok, let's put the fun in fundamentalism.
Ok, let's not. However I do remember one pretty funny event that happened when I was asleep long ago. I do not remember the dream I was having, but there were witnesses around to tell me what happened.
Basically, I was about 7-8 years old. Back then I was a sleepwalker. Not that badly, just going around the house every 10 nights or so. Well, this day my parents were still awake when I came downstairs to visit them in my sleep. So, I did this: I walked up to my dad, felt him in the face a little and uttered "But mom, you're so ugly!". Damn that was hilarious when my parents told me the next morning ^^
On the topic, one cool thing I've learned about (no idea if it's true or not, was told this by a friend). Apparently, if you sever the nerves going from, say, your hand to your brain, denying any and all impulses to be sent, and you then see someone else poking his hand, you're gonna feel like your hand's being poked. The brain recieves the information from your eyes, being told "a hand is being poked". It then 'asks' your hand "Are you being poked?". Apparently the hand nerves need to tell the brain "Nope, I'm not being poked". Or so I heard. Personally, I don't belive it that much, but it's interesting nonetheless.
Whoop, became more of a wall-of-text than I thought. Sowwy ^^
