Are Sequels Ruining Gaming?

I think sequals work if the company know how to make them work I mean look at the disgaea series it's 3 games in and it's still my second favorite RPG series ever (nothing is going to beat FF7 in my book)

dont think they will ruin gaming, sure there some bad sequels and others are just repetitive like the new prince of persia, despite the different graphics, but theres some good ones and even if they all sucked still there would be great new games coming

You just KNOW something bigger and better is to come. (except mgs wich ended with 4, right? I'm not really uptaded with this...)

not really. what's ruining gaming is piracy. Heh. Publishers' favorite excuse since 1972.
I have to agree. I really want to see some kind of chart or other research done to see how much gaming piracy actually affects the total video game sales. Makes you wonder why no such research exists. :P

GEE I WONDER ^.^
I find it funny how piracy has become an excuse for not releasing titles on the PC platform, when it's pretty much clear to everyone that the real reason is the profit margins in console releases (unified architecture == drastically lower development cost; ports cost extra money and headache; pricing policy; etc.).

No and I have nothing against them as long the developers don't assume that slapping on a well know title on a game and adding a higher number is enough to appease the fans. The more awesome the predecessor the harder it is to keep on delivering though (GTA for example, manages that very well while a recent game that didn't is IMO Fear 2).
One regrettable thing connected to sequels is that they often (probably due to outside pressure and pre-given schedules) come out unfinished, cut or downright buggy (SW KOTOR 2 and VtM Bloodlines come to mind from my personal disappointments). Seeing wasted potential of a game born before it's time is always hella painful.
