Armored Core V: Verdict Day
0
New armored core coming out. Called Armored core verdict day, it seems to have the same setting as ACV, different missions, probly bunch of new parts. But with an added bonus. You can now build your team of AI controlled mechs if you cannot pair up or do not wanna pair up with other players. Another bonus, these AI controlled mechs get smarter with every use.
According to current plans, the debut takes place in the fall of 2013 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. About the story says, "The world has been plunged into chaos everywhere Armored Core mechs fighting for important natural resources that are necessary for the survival of competing factions A strong trigger finger, innovative adaptations and strategic teamwork are everything between.. survival and total annihilation is. "
Players take in "Armored Core: Verdict Day" take the lead a squadron of advanced Armored Core mechs in a dystopic, war-ravaged future. "From up to 20 members, players form a team, contact one of the many factions in the game and try to in the persistent multiplayer other players wrest the territories."

Hell yes, one downside of 4 was the multiplayer as matches with actual teams where rare. The AI though, I am curious about, it's either gonna be really dumb or overpowered.

I'd love to get back into ACV but the multiplayer portion is dead. can't do any conquest missions or merc missions without people backing out on you.

Hmmm, I'll be entirely honest, and say that I never liked the multi portion in 4, and never played multi in V - I just didn't care about it.
V was "okay" as far as my Armored Core experience was concerned. I really liked the direction mecha combat went, the menu (man, the British-accented AI greeting you every time I turned on the game was boss) and the world design was pretty cool as well. Not nearly good as 2, or better yet, 3, but better than 4 or Nexus for me.
Will be keeping an eye out, though I doubt it'll be anywhere near my priorities.

Seems they mentioned some more things about the upcoming Armored core title.
Now for some screens.
Preview of some of the new parts?
Possible Cockpit mode for Verdict day.
Others
- Armored Core Verdict day will be a direct sequel to armored core V. Just like silent line was to AC3 and For Answer was to AC4
- Will use a enhanced matchmaking system
- Players and choose which side they want to be on in territory missions.
- You can transfer your save from ACV to Verdict day. Dunno what you get out of it but hopefully all your money, parts, mechs, and hard work.
- The release date is in September and will be for both Xbox 360 and PS3.

My boner. It popped.
From the looks of it, it looks like a hybrid body/arms weapon integration.
Which looks awesome.
New parts (especially that new KE core. fuggin delicious) make me all the more want to get this game.
And AI program returns from ACSL. Hoping to be much, much better than its older counterpart.
Now the thing that bothers me most is:
1. Will territories return?
2. Will the territory system ever be fixed?
3. Can I hope multiplayer becomes better and be like ACFA in where you can challenge anyone internationally?
4. Will Overed Weapons return?
5. Can Overed Weapons have multiple uses?

The video I have posted here is nothing special. just showing combat mechanics and what nots. However I am posting it cause of what happens near the end of it. Possible ragdoll effects when your mech breaks down while in motion is what makes the vid special.

(Seems the post youtube vid is broken for some odd reason so I am posting the link instead.)
ON the other hand, if this is true and implemented to both multiplayer and single player. My death will not only be frustrating, but amusing as well. :D

To put it simply, I want to play another Armored Core 3. AC 4 had some interesting mechanics but was ultimately a dull shitfest. I never played For Answer, or Nexus, or whatever name was made up next.
Armored Core 3 made me feel like I was a part of paramilitary organization that is contracted by big corporations to use a big robot to fuck with rival corporations. That was fucking awesome. I also got regular mail from allies, employers and rivals, so the game made me feel that my actions were significant and had a personal element to them. Add to this the arena, part unlocks, deep customization, and the ability to set up custom matches (1v1, 2v1, 2v2, etc) with bots from the arena and you've got a game I'm willing to sink 100+ hours into.
Armored Core 4 was utter shit: boring campaign with barely any attempt to create an immersive atmosphere, an equally boring arena with a minimal sense of progression with victories not evoking a feeling of satisfaction, and the lack of custom match making.
I SP all day, every day, so I couldn't give any type of fuck for multiplayer. The only thing I ask is that AC 5: Sequel Edition make piloting giant robots fun again. But before that, first I must know about the non-sequel edition. If you've played AC 5, then based on what I said about AC 3 (along with the cons I mentioned of 4), would you tell me if it'll be any good for me? Please elaborate.
Whereas previous games in the series focused on quick-reflex combat, Armored Core V relies heavily on tactical gameplay. Similar to the first games in the series, Armored Core V requires players to use level geography to their advantage.
Wikipedia's making a decent argument for AC 5, because I don't do "quick-reflex" bullshit. I can, but it's god damn tedious.

Okay. I'll tell you straight. You get this game only for the slight nostalgia that most AC players have, that being for ps2 era AC3 and so on. Get VD for more stuffs and gameplay, unless you really like going back for stories to make sense of it all.
LONG EXPLANATION WHY AHEAD.
In truth, AC5 is more like an introduction to new mechanics and set up for Verdict Day, both storywise and testing(imo).
It has slower game speed akin to AC3 and they brought back howitzers, but that's where the similarities end.
AC movement and management is hard to deal with at first.
Walk speed is SLOOOOOOW, even with lightweights.
Boost speed is a touch slow compared to AC3 era.
Boost and Jump are now separated and Jump button comes with a few new mechanics on it's own.
You can jump onto walls and climb buildings by jumping multiple times.
You can jump off the wall to gain range.
Boost has an "on/off" switch.
You can no longer boost upwards and fly around, as they decided to make V ground based and you can only hover down.
Quick Boosting (aka High Boost) makes a return, although it's much more tame compared to speed freak QB in AC4.
Holding the High Boost Button will activate AC's very first melee attack, the shoulder charge. The melee charge damage is based on the leg's initial damage plus weight and speed. Can be used consecutively as long as the energy bar doesn't run out, and has a bit of stun.
Over Boost (aka Glide Boost) makes a return, however with some downsides. You cannot use it in the air or hovering in the water. You must have some type of solid ground to make it feasible and to activate it. You can glide boost in any direction except in the opposite direction of the direction you first applied GB
(ie you GB right and you can go forward and back but you can't go left which will end the GB duration). Aside those setbacks, it's still a great advantage to getting around and even adds damage with your shoulder charge.
The weapon bay system gets rid of back shoulder units and makes all weapons not internalized all handheld (that means you can storage switch between a gun and energy blade).
Shoulder Extensions has been removed.
Weapon Storage has been removed.
Most of the weapon types are there, some are just one line (anything machine gun is automatically a gatling category) and others have been removed (grenade launchers and rockets).
The CANNON line of weapons are akin to the back mounted weapons from days of ye olde, except that they are handheld and when using them you basically can't use your other weapons and some functions. Also, you cannot switch them with the new weaponbay system and tanks are the only ones that can use CANNON types both in each hand while moving.
Missiles, rockets, flares (CIWS), ammo ext., decoys, weapon ups etc. are located all in the shoulder units. Missile and rocket RoF can be doubled if you have 2 shoulder units. You can only have one arsenal housing the shoulders.
Overed Weapons/Ultimate Weapons are the games' true unlockables. However, only 6 exist and it's mostly a pain getting them. Though they are fun to use, they can only be used ONCE per mission and all have an operational time of less than a minute. Also, the transformation for these weapons takes time out of the operational time and you have to charge them on top of that. They also take up 2 of the bay slots you would hold for your other weapons.
Storywise, AC5 has the shortest, most linear story in the entire series. And by story I mean the lowdown on how it leads up to VD.
The main story has 10 missions, but the good thing is their not short and easy(albeit having them played the first time).
Beating all 10 will unlock all weapons and 2-3 of the Ultimate Weapons.
You will have over close to 80 subquests to keep you busy after the main story.
They will contain small story tidbits after the main storyline and will include AC vs AC battles akin to raven arena rankers. Sad to say most of the AI is shit
and you will breeze through most of the AC vs battles.
There are 5 subquests you can only take online and they are boss battles.
There, I've told you the general things you need for SP. Online play is mostly dead till July 13th, in which there will be some sort of event due to ACVD coming out in the fall. Though IMHO most players prob won't come.
All in all, give it try. Though considering your an old fan, you'd probably be disappointed.

I couldn't find a reaction image that corresponded with my facial expression as I read your list, so this will do:

I don't know what the hell weapon storage is, but From Software removed flying? Not only are they trying to take away my freedom and the fun that comes with it but they removed my motherfucking grenade launcher (and the fun that comes with it)? I watched the first 12 minutes of gameplay and the guy had a big grenade launcher looking shit on his back. That's not a back weapon? If not, then it's probably one of those useless cannons because considering the guy's not a tank, he won't be dodging shit when he decides to whip it out, or did you mean that if one has 2 cannons they have to be a tank to move? (This is why I loved AC3's OP-INTENSIFY component: "Enhanced cannon operation" + back mounted grenade launchers and laser cannons = nostalgia of days when big robot games were good.) Seriously, this series has gone to shit. Verdict Day isn't out yet so From still has a chance to win me back with whatever changes they decide to make. However, I'll pass on V. Back in my day, a well designed AC was the "Ultimate Weapon."
Thanks for the detailed response.

I bring you, the "No future for mercs" trailer.

Actually I have been hearing that weapon arms are making a return. they are like the UW's in av5 in that they take up the entire back weapon slots or whatever it was called in av5, and I dunno if you will be able to still use shoulder weapons i.e rockets, flares, missiles, etc when you have the weapon arms equipped.
BTW, that guy in that vid. the boss you fight in one of the missions. pretty much has a UW. its like a 6 bladed chain saw. unfortunately for us, he sucks at using it and sadly we can only use UW's one of two times in AC5 before they have to cool down.
Edit: found out that the back weapons are called "reserve arm units" in ac5
