Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

Konami just announced that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is in development. Don't mix this up with the 3DS game that they're also working on, this is a direct sequel to the first game.

So any thoughts? Opinions? I know the first one got some mixed reactions by people but overall I really enjoyed it. I definitely wouldn't mind playing a sequel.

I've never played a Castlevania game in my life. But the trailer looks decent enough for me to give it a try.

I've always wanted to try the first one out but I didn't.
I wouldn't mind buying the second one but if the story is a direct sequel...
Also I've always known castlevania for introducing vampire hunters, why is this one sucking blood?

The first one's pretty good. It's long (for an action game) and can get a little hard but it's still fun to play. It's probably not for everyone though. For me it was the first Castlevania game that I've played so I couldn't compared it to all the 2D ones.

The Lords of Shadow games take place in a different universe, so there are references, some of which are very similar and/or direct like Rinaldo Gandolfi crafting the whip and Vampire Killer in Lament of Innocence and someone with the same name making the Combat Cross and its upgrades in LOS or just an indirect/slight reference such as Dorin (the priest/merchant from the DS game, Portrait of Ruin) who was a nice guy, to Dorin in LOS being a selfish bastard who kept the Holy Water to himself and let the town get massacred by vampire since it was the only weapon that held them back.
Ending spoilers for LOS1 and the DLC chapters:
Spoiler:
So far there is no "Vampire Killer" whip like in the old games (which only the Belmont family could wield with no problems as opposed to the Morris family), so all the characters so far have been using a sort of whip and it looks like it is going to be the main form of attack, even for Gabriel.
The game looks like it takes place some time after the DLC in LOS1 ends, there is also a 3DS game "Mirror of Fate" takes 25 years after LOS1 ends. Supposedly LOS2 takes place after MoF. MoF stars Trevor Belmont, the supposed child that Gabriel never knew and Simon Belmont, who is a descendent of Trevor.
I'm a huge Castlevania fan, so pardon my long explanations.
EDIT: Here is an article on the 3DS game:

1. This is a direct sequel, so you really, and I mean REALLY, need to play the first game to understand what's happening here.
2. The Lords of Shadow series is actually an alternate timeline from the main Castlevania games, so I wouldn't really advise making this your first series. At least, if you do make it the first, understand it's not the main canon that made the series so popular.
Another thing to remember is that this series is NOT by a Konami internal development team, despite the Konami logo. This is actually developed by Spain-based Mercury Steam, the developers behind American McGee's Scrapland and Clive Barker's Jericho.

I played Lords of Shadow the first one. I lost all patience with it because it felt too similar to a generic hack-and-slash like God of War. A simplified, Light/Heavy attack scheme with a bit and end here and there to add some flair. To be completely honest, this game was an major disappointment to me.

I'm so damn excited about this game! As soon as I watched the trailer for LoS 2, I said to myself,"And now I play the waiting game." This game and SotN are probably my favorites throughout the entire franchise.

I'm curious about the game, but some aspects of it irk me a bit. Like Alucard being in it, for example, even if it is in a separate universe. And I don't really get the point of a sequel anyway, considering that thing that happened at the end of the first one. I'll probably check the game out either way, but unless it brings something new to the genre, the Castlevania characters and enemies and such aren't enough for me to not write this off as another generic hack 'n slash. And I get the feeling they most likely won't have Patrick Stewart back to elevate this one a bit like in the first.

New gameplay details
I can't wait for this game. Thinking back on it, I really enjoyed the first one. "Magic" will now regenerate based on kills and good fighting. The controllable camera sounds like an improvement as well.

From what the trailer shows, I hope there might be a two story thing and i'm hoping the white hair person to challenge him at the end was Alucard.

I beat this game not so long ago. i say its not as good as the first. the trailer really hyped me up but after comparing it to the first i really like the first better. The first one really was a adventure when traveling from one place to another and the types of monsters you would find to suit each location as compared to this one where the most you go is to hell, the old castle and the city and i would just see the same boring monsters like knights, soilders, robots and some demon monsters. this one is short compared to the first and i already knew what to expect, fighting satin again as the final boss. while i really did enjoy the game play it just didn't surpass the first IMO
