Thinking back the times i played DOTA i always make the opponent i play with cursing till the whole cyber cafe can hear him i like to play people around for nothing (sorta like a decoy to draw all ur mana and ur skills into cooldown then my friend goes in for the kill) they fall for tht every time. yeah i can be a flea just to make people mad but i like it hehehe....

I(and most of my friends) found that DotA relies too much on getting the best items...theres really no skill involved, (haven't played in about 1.5 years so forgotten all the item names) but seriously, just get a group to go kill Rosha get the best items and pewpew there goes the other team.I totally disagree because I play DoTA all the time with my friends 5 vs 5 games and teamwork is always needed, it's like 5 against 1 if your all on your self, ambushing solo players are one of the most common in DoTA and the thought that you need to defend your tower with your teammates is another then the levels because basically even if you have the most powerful equipment, a level 3 reaper of necrolyte can be your most fearful encounter having half Hp instant kill meaning ones your Hp is 50% or less you'll be instantly be killed by this skill if you survive a 3sec stun awaits making you defenseless and immobile... so it's all about thinking how to win not just have the most powerful or awesome equipments around the keyword "teammates" is always in the mind that's why this game is so great that it's so much addictive :D

The games changed a lot in 1.5 years, you'd hardly recognize it now. Considering the amount of heroes and items, I find it to be remarkably balanced and highly dependent on teamwork, as ishiroyuka mentioned. Of course, I also hate the game for taking up so much of my time =(.

I have heard of DotA, but I've never played.
Partly, I think, due to the fact that I lost my Frozen Throne CD-Key some time ago.
But, still. Sounds like fun. Can someone explain the basics while I search again?

In my opinion, comparisons can be drawn between Dota and the map "Three Corridors". Older warcraft 3 players would have heard of the latter.
Some say that Dota requires more skill on the part of the player while winning in Three Corridors depends on the items bought. Since I have not played enough Dota, I am unable to confirm if the above statement is true.
Music and sound effects wise, I have always preferred that of Three Corridors. "Tremble mortals and despair. Doom has come to this world!". :D

It's simple. Pick a Hero, Lvl up, use skill points and make use of the skill, create skill combos to kill the enemy heroes (kill those creep fags while your at it), kill neutral creeps on map, buy and combine strong items, destroy defense towers and push towards the enemy base till you reach their Main Tower (follow the creeps^^) and destroy it while preventing the enemy to enter your base and destroy your Main Tower. Easy^^
Oh yeah. While you're at it. Kill the super creep, Roshan, that is near at the right of the river and acquire the super item, Aegis^^

I use to play dota all the time, and was once in the fifth best team on the west coast in ranking. Though, thats not saying to much, as we could be beaten pretty badly by people far less down the rank in East Coast, and thats even with them having serious lag issues.
But I got a girl friend, and now I just plan suck. I play maybe three times a week with my room mate, but private games are as bad as pubs.
I personally much prefer the base warcraft 3 game, the biggest problem is their ranking system choosing who I fight, I very rarely seem evenly matched, and even in base wc3, the amount of cheating that occurs is horrendous, with a very much attitude of "I'm a korean playing on west, what do I care if I get banned? You still lost". I heards its gotten better.

I've played DotA a few times. I think it's stupid and people should play less of it so better maps get played more. There are so many more maps out there than DotA V.3.1, 3.6, 4.2, etc..

I'm a hardcore DOTA player, trust me. I like to pub sometimes, but mostly TDA and was in CEVO for DOTA once and might plan on creating a team and getting back into CAL. I've spent countless hours playing this and my friends that play CS like to mock me by singing the Dota song by BassHunter when I tell them I'm playing DOTA, lol.
I have a couple of friends that's always on vent DOTAing, but recently I've held it off for a few weeks, don't really know why. Any who if any of you guys have some friends and wanna scrim/inhouse we can host LC.
I remember playing a game with Jacob and some other members on this site, he's really good imo xD.
And the people behind DOTA are great, this is practically the reason why WC3 is still alive + ladder players.

The reason you think that is because you haven't played for 1.5 years. DOTA has developed into a more team game especially in leagues and somewhat in TDA. it's extremely important on what hero you choose, you can't just pick one off the bat, it has to be able to make combos for the team and with other heroes. It doesn't all depend on what items you have nowadays, you can own with a bargain hehe :P .

I played it for about...5 months when it first came out then took about a 4 month break, came back and it had changed a whole shit load. But seriously...I've go onto Bnet every once in a while and all I see is about 30 games of DotA and maybe one or two other games...it's pretty much taken over WC3. And then of course since I haven't played in about a year(DotA has been around longer for a year and a half) I can't even get into any of the games because people are all "LYke OmFG!! newb!!! phail j00 suck!!11!oneon1!" and so I've pretty much given up all together on DotA.
Anyways, way back when, DotA was heavily item dependent. Sure, let me and 2 of my teammates take on 2 enemies and lets die about 3 times in a row because they have superior items...woo! While DotA may hold true in the hearts of others, and it is a decent game, I still find more fun in EotA due to the nature of being able to play solo and it having a much more developed AI system.

DotA is the shit, I whup ass with most any character. I prefer ar or ap games because I'd rather random my character. Em games are gay. My best characters are usually agility heroes, but there are a few intel and str heroes that I dominate with as well.

I like the new TDA support implemented in B-net. Basically it makes people play Ladder games to reach 25 wins to get an icon. TDA kicks people without those 25 minimum wins, and if you play very badly you are banned from the TDA servers, thus forcing you to make a new account. If you don't have 25 wins, you can be vouch. 25 = 1 person , 50 = 2 people 75 = 3 people and so on. But if one of your vouch gets banned you also get banned which could be risky

I don't even play regular warcraft. The whole idea of having a hero with special items and abilities while trying to play a strategy game makes it extremely unfair. And I've had this game for 3 years

God, I haven't played DOTA for almost a month since I reformatted my computer and I lost my disc. My friend is gonna gimme his disc since the update allows you to play without a WC3 disc now :)
