Demo Reviews

Ok, so I thought I would start this topic so that any of you who have played any recent demo's can come here and write about them and whether or not they're worth downloading or purchasing in the near future. This goes for all platforms (PC, 360, Wii, PS3, Ds, etc)
Ok, first one is Frontlines: Fuel of War (360, PS3, PC) -
The basic story to this is that its the future and oil is near its end. War has broken out between nations so that they may acquire the oil. You play as an American soldier fighting against Red Star, which is a alliance of Russia and China. Now, this is your bog standard FPS with your bog standard weapons; Assault rifle, Grenades, Pistols, you get the jist of it. There are also vehicles to drive. Now, as this is the demo, there are only a select few of weapons and vehicles, but the game states that when release comes round, over 60 vehicles and weapons will be at your disposal. Basically, if you can see it, you can drive it. It also notes that it in single player you will be able to do anything and go anywhere on that map. It will also support XBL with matches of up to 32 people in. With a large map, alot of people & tonnes of weapons and vehicles, the online mathces could be quite hectic and exciting. Also, in the full game there are several classes; Ground Support, EMP tech, Drone Tech, and Air Support. The roles are upgradeable thrice, in an RPG style twist. In the demo; Infantry, Anti-Vehicle and Special Op classes are available. The demo itself is quite a large one (1.69 gb) but for a demo, it's a decent length. The map is a decent sized map at that, with no loading screens. Enemy A.I. at this moment is all over the place, with the possibilty of you just running up to an enemy and them not even firing at you and at the same time you have ones picking you off from a distance. What did seem annoying is when I was using the sniper. I was quite far away and had them in my sights, then they would immediatly know my location and start firing at me, even though there are other guys closer to them and I hadn't even fired a shot yet. But this is the demo of course.
My opinion: Download it, it's pretty good fun. I'll be keeping an eye out for this.
Second game I downloaded this week was Omega Five: (XBLA) - 800 points
This is a 2D scrolling shooter, much like that of R-type, except you play as a Ninja like person. The plot? No idea. It just seemed to throw you into the action straight away. The goal just seems to be defeat the hoard of enemies coming at you. The control system is similar to Geometry wars. Your left stick is movement, and the right stick is you firing. Of course, you get your different grades of weapons, varying from wierd metalic liquid to a flamethrower. Characters also have there own unique abilites with the Women being able to attach some sort of hook that helps you aim, whilst the guy has different firing methods. The abilites for the male seem to change with the weapon, but this doesn't seem to be the case for the female.
Opinion: Seems like good fun but I'm unsure about its longevity. If your a gamer who loves old style arcade games, then you'll enjoy this.

Ok.... This week the two games I played were "The Club" and "Boogie Bunnies"
The Club - 360, PS3 & PC
The Club is a 3rd person Shooter that sees you running through various environments and meeting specific objectives to win the match. It's kind of like racing, except instead of you being in a car, your on foot. Most of the objectives are exactly the same. They require you to get a specific amount of points in a specific time. The only difference that you may either have to keep going round a battle field 3 times (alot like a race) or just get to the end of the map. The maps themselves are always guideing you, something that I didn't really like. I can understand if it were lapping, but if you have to get to the end of the map, you should be able to choose your route, not simply push forwards and shoot. The enemies are too easy, and the guy you play as has an aresnal of weapons that can take an enemy down in about 2-3 shots. He also seems to be able to take massive damage, making the game not that much of a challenge. For instance, I ran into a room guys firing at me, picked them off one by one (not behind cover) and my health had gone down from 100 to 89. The story? Non-existant. It just tells you to run around, shooting these guys. There is mulitplayer, but it was just too samey.
My Opinion: Don't get this, it's way too samey and not that exciting. Sure, the camera tries to make it exciting with the "Gears Of War" type shaking, but this has no real effect.
Boogie Bunnies - XBLA & PC - 800 points
Boogie Bunnies doesn't involve you dancing, so don't be mislead by the title. It's basically one of those games where you have to line 3 of the same colour up for them to dissapear. If your not fast enough, the bunnies drown in a river and you lose the game. The fact of the matter is that the bunnies are doomed either way as they either drown, or explode when lined up with 3 of the same colour. As you progress, the levels get harder and harder with more variations of bunnies. The reason it's called Boogie bunnies is that sometimes during a level, they will randomly start to dance. If you match them up whilst dancing, you get a point bonus. I though I wouldn't play it that much, but after an hour or so I realised that it's actually quite addictive.
My Opinion: If your into these types of games, Your sure to have fun with it. If not, you probably won't enjoy it.
On a side note, I was looking through some info about is Frontlines: Fuel of War and is seems that 360 owners and PC maybe able to play together, much like Shadowrun.
