Evolution of gaming

Hello everyone!
Gaming has evolved into the worlds #1 highest grossing product. Every year we are gifted with our favorite games and new titles, but with as much technology already grasped, what's next? Besides the PS4 and XBOXone as well as the WiiU, what new advances in gaming will come forth to amaze us?
Please share your thoughts and opinions on this interesting topic. Thanks!

If the PS4 and Xbone are advancing gaming tech, why is my PC still two gens ahead?
On topic: pay attention to the Oculus Rift. The Dreamâ„¢ is just a little bit closer to reality.
The term "joystick" will never be the same.

The Oculus Rift looks pretty cool, and should be the next step in gaming. You can only improve graphics so much before shinier graphics won't bring people in.
Someday gaming should get to the point of stuff such as .hack
The PS4 and Xbone aren't that different from their predecessors. Just stronger (yet still behind the gaming PC). The Wii U is a cool idea, but they need to find ways to implement the controller better instead of it just being a DS on the TV.
On a side note if they got a DS TV player (like the Super Gameboy or the Game Boy Player) that would be awesome for the Wii U.

I am pretty sure games will move towards ".hack" "AccelWorld" "Sword Art Online" in the future, because the main point of gaming is offering a experience you can't feel on real life.
Regarding Occulus Rift, I read some time ago that some companies were very interested in trying to deliver "good porn games" with a much "richer" experience than right now and they showcased a guy with the occulus rift kind of groping something in the air... yeah he was suppousedly gropping boobs. XD
Also, I am sure there are people already working on something like that related to hentai, like the link provided by... by... Kaimax. Damm hats!! I can't read the name. xD

Ah, yes I've seen footage of the oculus rift and as impressed as I was the only thing on my mind is how negative this could turn in later years. If its not going to be the oculus rift then it will be something just the same. What I guess I'm getting to is that it might be damaging and traumatic to the brain. Especially for younger gamers. No ones said anything like that?!

The only thing I hope is that the newer gen technology doesn't overshadow the quality of the games. I like the HD graphics and easier maneuverability (second one may vary), but a good quality story and gameplay win my heart everytime.

Probably, when everything becomes cheaper, like today's game engines which are no longer as expensive as 8 years ago, companies will start investing more resources in those aspects.
Overall, games have always being divided into "great visual experience" and "great non-visual experience". The fomer is graphic based with cutting-edge graphics, whereas the later is more story-telling based with (rarely) cutting-edge graphics. xD

No ones said anything like that?!You're not being plugged into the matrix, they're just goggles with television screens typically built for midgets. The only trauma one can suffer is getting cock blocked by Gary Oak. A foreseeable issue is taking the goggles off after wearing them for too long and having to wait for your eyeballs to stop hurting as eyesight acclimates to the old environment. Other than that, the brain should be fine. It's a more resilient organ than paranoid mothers would like to believe. Everything in moderation.

I think the (video)gaming industry is one of the youngest we know that has evolved so quickly. Think back to the times of arcade games and first gen consoles like Atari and Magnavox in the 70s. Old, simple things that played pong with 2 bit color graphics and everything of the game was just one simple screen.
More than 40 years now, not even half a century, and here we are. Video graphics, processing and practically everything else have excelled so quickly even games from 5 years ago can pale in comparison(with exception of few classics). Long gone are the days of 8 bit sprites or even low poly 3D models, we've got games that go to the 1080p level with high processing engines that allow for dynamic gaming (and highly realistic fish AI). Where once, the industry was dominated by large corporations that spawned hyped up AAA games comes the dawn of indie developers where anyone and everyone has the potential to create a hit if they have an idea and the know how.
With new emerging technology like the Occulus Rift and Augmented Reality, coupled with the limitless imagination of the human mind, I can see the gaming industry has yet to reach it's peak. It's highly unlikely we'll see complete virtual gaming any time soon, 5 years at earliest give or take, but the road there will be a fun one filled with beautiful gems and unfulfilling disappointments. I sincerely look forward to the day someone makes an engine with realistic domesticated cat AI, I want to see them furry things hiss at me when I don't feed them.
Also, I demand that there be an SAO style game as soon as VR gaming becomes reality.

In my opinion consoles don't evolve with the rest of the market. Pc gaming is always a far better experience. Especially with the Oculus coming out. After the devs fix the display it will be amazing. Hopefully gaming will become something like SAO with full immersion unlike the Oculus which only immerses 2 senses.

I doubt we will see that many games made for the Oculus.
I see it almost as the 3d gimmick that was cool a while back.
People got tired of it. You wouldn't find many (if any) games on the 3ds, specifically made to utilize the 3d effect.
I think a lot of games would be compatible with the Oculus, but not that many made for it, and almost all of those would be indie titles.
If you were to make and sell a game, would you risk selling half (or less) of what you could have, simply because only a portion of the potential consumers like to use the Oculus?
People keep talking about SAO and the whole virtual reality thing like it's right around the corner.
To reach that kind of immersion you would have to hack the brain, and you have to find a convenient way to do it without sticking metal rods in your skull.
I don't think we will see anything like that in our lifetime.

On the contrary, I believe we MIGHT be able to witness the 'beginnings' of the technology to immerse our brains into gaming in about... 30 to 50 years from now.
Before something like that hapens, though, we'd have to figure out a way to bypass that whole "we only use 10-20% of our brains" thing... but I, for one, will thoroughly enjoy what the Oculus Rift will bring as the next step in gaming evolution.
I'm talking about laying in my bed with two complex joysticks while playing MechWarrior Online, of course.

The one thing about the Oculus Rift that's going to suck for me is that I'm blind in one eye. None of this 3D shit works for me.

I looked into the possibility of immersing the brain and stumbled upon something called Emotiv EPOC. It's some sort of headset that reads your brainwaves.
They were showing off a software that let you manipulate a cube with your mind,
like make it spin or disappear.
It has to register your brainwave for each command first though.
I think the problem with this is that it can't detect if you are thinking about rotating the cube, it just registers that thought as 'rotation'. For this to work in a full game you would have to register many commands.
I don't see how it's more convenient to lift a rock or repair a bridge with your mind, then to just press a button, since it's practically the same thing in principle.
But if they expand upon this technology, it could be really interesting.

The Japanese birth rates will decrease even further after the Oculus reaches it's shores.
On a different note, yeah gaming has evolved quite a bit over it's existence. I wouldn't limit it's evolution/change to consoles only though. People want and can expand in many different directions.
Your avi reminds me of Metal Gear abridged.
