They can be our biggest annoyance, our biggest help, or just there to be downright adorable. A familiar is someone that follows the protagonist around during the game kinda like a pet/companion/sidekick (i.e Midna, Pikachu, Daxter)

For me i have to say Bow from the 1st Paper Mario. As for why i like her,she just funny over the game and i believe at one point she said something like she kill mario if he look at a girl but in the Nintendo way. XD

Besides the known Navi or just Legend of Zelda overall, Paper Mario is actually the only game I remember that has these companions.
Bow was a awesome partner, I liked her alot when I was a kid.

Clementine from the walking dead game such an adorable and strong little girl... well her or Fi don't know why I like her so much but I just do and is my personal favorite of all the LoZ companions

For overall usefulness, I would go with Watt from Paper Mario.
Could attack at all areas (ground, air, ceiling), went through defenses, has an attack boost. All you ever really need from a partner in that game.
For general favorite I would say Tatl from Majora's Mask, mainly due to remembering that she isn't nearly as annoying as Navi

I've always liked the zelda familiars (with a few exceptions..) My favorite would either be Midna or King of red lions.
