What you should do is rent a copy from Blockbuster or whatever, keep that one, and return the broken your broken copy in its place. That's what I did with my Dynasty Warriors 5 when it got scratched to shit, I even got my money back.

*sigh* I was about to post something like "Just pm me your address, pay for the shipping, and I'll send you my copy, just send it back when you're done." but, I can't find it. If I do I'll let you know. God damnit I hope it wasn't one of the games I lent to one of my friends that he lost a long ass time ago.

Awwwwh T_T I hate it when stuff like this happens. I'm missing the first FF8 disk, the fourth FF9 disk, and the second FF7 disk because my brothers never took care of my video games when we were all younger. :(

I'll probably just buy it on EBay and take the third disk and give away the new case & the three discs with it. I'll post here again when/if I do.

Could I get some proof of ownership? Like a picture of the game with a piece of paper with your name and fakku written on it or something will do.

You know ... i´d say that the piracy holds the answer ^^.
I had FFIX Original disks on PSX about 8 years ago but they just went AWOL so....if you own the orignal disks of Final Fantasy IX then it´s practically legal for you to download they´re copy from the internet.
I use emulator to play them because my PSX is .....deceased xD

I have an emulator and FFIX on my computer, but I don't have a modded PS1 and I don't like the audio issues on the PS1 emulator. I either get good audio on the main game and messed up audio on the FMV, or good audio on FMV and bad audio everywhere else. *sigh*

I see, i see .... i wonder, have you tried an emulator named psxfin ? It has no serious issues with sound nor video whatsoever.
I would even say that it´s the best PSX Emulator on the internet ^^
It´s awesome ^^ i play everything on it.
