Final Fantasy XV

Might as well share the first news/rumours about XV:

Apparently, the title has been in works since 4 years now. One of the head producers is Hiroyuki Ito (FFVI director, invented materia system in FFVII, triple triad in VIII)

First comments about the battle system: It's a "Mega++" version of the FFXII battle system where one can also aim at distinctive parts of the enemy's anatomy (Vagrant Story like).

Ambition wise, he aims to make XV as rich as Skyrim in terms of game content and he also expects XV to have a bigger impact than VII.

It will be an open world game with towns as busy as those you'd find in Assassin's creed.

Yet another Final Fantasy... *sigh* But it sounds kinda cool, with a "Skyrimlike" world and busy towns. Can't wait to hear more.

This doesn't sound too bad actually. I liked FFXII and the exploration it had.

Never got a chance to play FF12 but this new one sound promising (hope they dont fuck it up) Squaresofts track record has been slipping as of late.

This sounds nice, but where's Versus?

12 was a good game, but the story was sorta meh to me. Vaan was like... just there and had nothing to do with it.

Eh, I'm not fond of XII's battle system at all. Hopefully it's better than XII, but I think I'll wait until it inevitably drops to $20 to purchase it, regardless of how good it sounds when later details are released. XIII was far too disappointing for me to trust a Final Fantasy game in the near future.

But yeah, they should release versus first. So they can focus on this new FF.

I hope they keep the "fantasy" theme though the world will be as large as Skyrim.

Forgot I even made this thread. Yea so, Versus XIII is getting overhauled for the PS4 and will be named Final Fantasy XV. PS4 Exclusive as Sony is co-developing this.
First trailer at E3 or before if lucky.

Seriously, I don't understand that philosophy.

I've stopped playing Final Fantasy at twelve, and I couldn't play XIII because it didn't clique with me at all. Could you clarify this for me? Is this game related to XIII in any way?

The only related thing this game had with XIII was its title, and it's now being changed. They've released trailers for Versus XIII (years ago) but I'm not sure how reliable they are now.
If the rumours are to be believed (cf. OP) then this Final Fantasy could be the FF we've all been waiting for.

It's about business, it's always about business. Sony owns a decent chunk of Square Enix so they probably have some sort of contractual agreement with each other. Basically, Sony gives them some cash or shares in return for the exclusive release, which in turn will likely have a beneficial effect on the PS4's sales and might help push it up to par with the new Bawks. It's also hard to release a game for both next-gen consoles, there may eventually be a port but having to modify the game for two completely different sets of hardware that are subject to change is probably very costly.



I sure hope so, this may be the first FF I've owned since IX and the first one I've played since X.

Sorry if my statement sounded to naive, it was more about that "I as a developer, can't withstand it", because it is more important the money (which I agree at some degree) than the creation. IMHO FF stopped being a work of Art long ago and became a profitable franchise, which is normal when something is successful and it has nothing wrong, I simply can't withstand it. >_
