Forgetting to save

Admit, there's nothing more killer / completely killing any motivation of play XX game when you forgot to save for a while ( for random reason) And have to start allllll over.

I've done worse: Remembering to save, but saving over THE WRONG FILE.
I did that in my Tales of Phantasia game. I started a new file for one reason or another, then accidentally saved over my "normal" save file, that was at level 80+ and RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FINAL BOSS. :x
That absolutely murdered any more ambition I had to finish the game.

I've had several similar instances.
For one, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation. I saved whilst I was falling down a pit (accidentally of course) and, whenever I loaded it, she would be falling down the pit to her death. I had to go back so far.
Also, my Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past catridge for the GBA stop actually saving files for some reason. I finished it, but it would have been nice to do a 2nd playthrough (Fuck, I'm not going to do the whole game in one sitting)

Happens to me when playing persona 4. Go through a bunch of days and entering a dungeon without saving because I think it will be a cake walk. I've gotten into the habit of saving before every dungeon now.

Ditto spent 8 hours on Tales of Vesperia level grinding and grade farming and made it from lvl 64 to lvl 69 and then I mistakenly overwrite my previous file of lvl 130+ I had to spend 3 weeks to make up for that.

Especially during a thunderstorm I hate that.

It depends on the game I'm playing. I save neurotically in VN and RPGs, but anything that can even loosely be described as action my savepoints are usually checkpoints.
As a result, I've got a pile of unfinished FPS somewhere on my secondary HD.

I was playing with my friend on a rainy day. We got over 20 lvl's like 10+ hours to game play. There was some auto-save. But then the power went down and all the save got fucked. So we lost everything we played for.
Oh man i don't play any more games that req really important save when there's a thunderstorm.

Ah, so the Gameboy cartridges have started to go now, huh? :(
Oh well. At least I have all my Pokemon games backed up.
(Note: If you don't know why the old games can't save anymore, it's because the games had a battery inside that powered the memory. The batteries were set to last for about 10 years, so they've recently started losing data.)

Not quite the case of 'forgetting' to save, but similar.
I've been playing Baldur's Gate on PS2 with a friend, but we couldn't find any of my memory cards, and since we really wanted to play that game we decided to make it without a savegame, and so we just don't have to die, easy thing.
So we're playing, my friend sits on the couch and I'm next to her on a rocking chair, the PS2 to my feet.
On the second day, after about sixteen hours of playing, we took a break, and as I'm about to stand up, and the rocket chair leans forward, I hit the PS2 power button with my big toe (It's actually such a fucking small button.). It was for some reason closer to me than the day before, and I could actually see how I'm about to switch it off, but I was thinking "That's way too retarded to actually happen." which caused major brainlag in my head, and everything went in slow motion, and then I hit the fucking button before reacting. I didn't even hit the button, it was more like the fucking wind hit it. I look up to my friend next to me, she just looks at the PS2, then on me, then on the PS2 again, and we were like that for about a minute and we couldn't grasp the situation at all. Suddenly a flash struck me, I ran out of the room, through the hallway, into another room, took out my Final Fantasy XII box and found the memory card inside it. I showed it to her and was like "I found it!" and she just went home without giving me a response.

Overwriting the save file after you unconsciously passes a certain important point of the game is much more devastating imo.
True story:
Tales of the Abyss, it's Guy's costume sidequest. I'm supposed to talk to this lady after a certain plot in the game unravels, but i charge straight ahead with the main story. In the end, i can't unlock that costume juat because i forgot to do that one step, and i can't turn back because i've already overwritten the save file.

I just ran into something like this in the Last Remnant.
Luckily I didn't get that far into it. But still sucks that I have to start back at the beginning.

That's my problem with xenosaga episode II right now.
I played once and got to the final boss and then my memory card was left in another state.
I play again and I passed the second disk (I hate this one part of the game) and got pretty far, but got stuck at this one fight where I wasn't strong enough to beat, but for some reason I couldn't go back and level some more because of a fucking switch.
Then I started over again and got past the part I hated and a child my mom was watching was on my PS2 saved over my file.
Now my ps2's volume doesn't work.
I'm destined to not finish that game.

I haven't done anything like that in a long long time, I got the hang of saving all to often from my newbie RPG days with Secret of Mana, when I hardly could understand enough English to navigate menu's.
I was so good at saving, I even had a backup file at LoZ: A Link to the Past, but it all backlashed when my technically unadapted mother deleted my best file so that my little sister could play, seeing as I had 2 files.
The good thing that came about was that I become the ruler of my own gaming systems after that, as I obviously knew best.
