Has anyone ever tried making their own Visual Novels?

I've lurked around the site for some time now and decided to get into the forums just recently. I skimmed through the topics and couldn't find a discussion about this anywhere. I'm not even sure if this is the right forum for it but I think it's worth a shot so...
With all the visual novels that are out from Japan, has anyone here ever thought of putting one together? I know it's a lot of work but I'm sure there are a ton of talented people on the site that could put one together. Just what I was thinking, that's all. :)

I'm sure there are alot of talented people who could come together and make one but that would take alot of time and effort. It's really a matter if thet'd have the determination to follow through with it. As for me I'm not one of those talented people the furthest I come is sometimes I make alternate storylines in my head for characters.
Btw you avatar is from Popotan if I'm not mistaken, right?

There's a few people that are making VNs, some of them even on this forum. The trick is that you need not only a good writer, you need excellent artists, composers, and then you need to make the actual game (easier now that there's an engine for it.)
So, it's definitely doable, but it takes a lot of time and coordination.

There are good writers and good artist, the problem is having them come together and properly communicating their ideas to each other.
I'd do a visual novel, but I'm too lazy. I don't think I'd have the will power to take it to different companies to try to have it published.

Ok, yeah. Definitely do-able.

Well I have a thread somewhere 'round here with writing samples if anyone is interested. (enough of my whoring of my work, though!)
Raz, why not just BS some stuff, be it art, music, words, or even some code for a game? Time may come where someone needs it and you can say lolololololol

Yes, actually. Me, and a friend are currently working on one at the moment, and things are going relatively well. It's just finding people to help out that's hard. It's just me and a friend, so things are progressing slowly. I was actually going to make a thread here, and on the forum with the engine we're using. We need artists, some composers, and programmers to help build an engine, since the one we're using is open source, and can't be used for anything more than free stuff. Since we might expand, we want to build an engine, etc, etc.
But I'm getting off topic. Yes, there are people out there that are working on VNs and the like. You just have to find them.

So what engines are being used? All I have is the old Klik n Play game creation program. Very limited, but I've made a few arcade type games with it long ago. While I still have it, I lost the instruction book for it. T_T

I've tried to make on, but stop at the embryonic stage, since we can't find any good illustrator. and too late to restart now, my friend is not interested anymore.

Yeah its hard to get one going, for me at least.
Well the source for a set-up like a Visual Novel would be pretty easy for someone experienced in basic programming languages. A friend of mine has been working for about 6 hours and already has a pretty solid foundation.

If anyone is interested, I'm looking for members for our team. We need artists, but we need programmers and such too. If anyone thinks they'll fit the bill, feel free to PM me.

I shall root for your efforts, I don't know how long my girlfriend would tolerate me working on a VN when I hardly have much time to even spend with her nowadays.
Sigh, to be young and bold...

o.0 Would you like to join me? My group just needs a composer and a CG artist.
I would fucking love to. Just pm me your MSN or something.

I could probably do the programming for it,with the engine and all that, but I'd need a week or so to get used to it. Heck, I didn't get a 98 in Grade 10 Computer Programming for nothing.
[size=10]But my final project did suck... [/h]

Don't you have to plan out the entire story (not to mention what characters will be in it)? I mean... all those branching storylines would be a headache, I think. I was thinking of doing one myself, but stopped when I realized I need to learn more about the DarkBasic Pro language I had bought (I'm still working on making a shooter and can at least get some graphics on screen).
If people are looking for a free programming language, I think C# might fit the bill. I'm pretty sure it's limited (buying it will cost $800) but it can be used for making XB360 and windows games.

To kill my boredom, I'm learning how to Use O/NScripter (On and just N).
I have learned...
*define
That's it. xD
but it's possible to make a VN, rather easily actually. The whole coding for this program doesn't seem too hard to learn. You just need a good artist, good writer, good...music? And I guess someone who knows the programming.
ONScripter is Free and Open-Source (GPL)
get it here:
