What is going on?
So what do you guys think about this? Is this a good thing, that Minecraft will finally be developed by people who actually know what they're doing, or is this the end for all good things Minecraft?
inb4 $80 Minecraft with $15 subscription fee.
Mojangs statement about it all

I agree with notches decision but sadly Microsoft has already started changing the rules for youtubers of minecraft, they are not allowed to earn any money from minecraft or advertisement hosted with the videos.
Seems there will probably be a little too many changes for my liking.

Makes me wish i had developed a shitty looking lego game, sooo jellyyyyy.
For Mojang this deal might be a good thing (don't know that much of the details), but obviously they get more money to produce better quality games in the future.
But for the players i think it is not a good thing (as far as i know). That thing alone that youtubers are no longer allowed to earn money with Minecraft is bullshit. Microsoft just wants to or try to gather all the potential capital it can from this product in a very greedy way, and not giving two shits about what actually makes this game good and fun to play, and that is (in my opinion) the fact that the community has had so much liberty to do what ever with the game (i am not talking about game play).

Jesus christ notch.
Better yet. He says it's not about the money.
Probably true to a degree though, I mean, the guy did make ridiculous amounts of cash before(About $40 Million/year back in 2011/2012). It's not like him, his children or his grandchildren would have to worry about money even before this deal was struck.
Personally I think that Minecraft, and Mojang, is doomed. Microsoft's track record of buying companies, milking their franchises for every penny while tanking the companies into oblivion is impressive to say the least. To be honest this deal feels a lot more like Microsoft being cunts about not having exclusive rights anymore than anything else.
The fact that Youtubers aren't allowed to monetize their videos anymore is sad, but it doesn't really worry me too much. It's not something they've gone out and said explicitly, but no Microsoft-owned franchise is allowed to be monetized on Youtube without their permission, which from what I understand is not unreasonably hard to get. We'll possibly loose some of thie mid-level players as they might not be able to get permission and rely to heavy on the revenue, but it's not like Yogcast and Co. will be going anywhere.
In either case, it might be time to try out something new, I hear Minetest is starting to take off.
