Papa Nito Enemy Stand

I've been loving what I'm seeing when it comes to Nier Automata. I haven't seen a Platinum game this strong looking since Bayo 2. Only problem is that I haven't played any of the Drakengard games, or the original Nier. My primary concern is if there will be any form of continuity lockout, since all these games are tied together from what I've heard. I'd gladly go back and play the previous games, but from what I've seen in various youtube videos, I'm not all that keen on the combat gameplay they've used in those games, and fans tell me it's commonly the weakpoint of the series, as well. It looks rigid, and nowhere near as fluent as what we see in this newer game.

Is there anybody out there who's a fan of the Drakengard/Nier series that can help clarify if the games are closely tied together, or if the stories are disconnected enough that I can enjoy one game without needing to play the rest?

Not a Drakengard/Nier player, but I know a couple things about the lore and AFAIK Nier branches from one of the original Drakengard's endings, and Automata is a sequel to Nier set in the far future of that world, so a few characters will return apparently.

This game will get a PC port via Steam so, unless it's too hi-spec for my rig, I will be buying it. If needed, I'll just read stuff online to better grasp who's who and what's happening here and there.

Well, at least I'm happy that Nier: Automata is coming to PC on March 17th.

...and it turns out my rig is too outdated to play this game, so I will have to watch some playthrough on youtube. :(

Can always buy a PS4.

I'd rather upgrade my rig so it can handle the game, and many more with it (and yes I'm aware the PC port of Automata has a lot of issues right now).

I have a laptop, so upgrades involve getting an entire new laptop. PS4 is the better and cheaper option for me.

I believe this game was also patched for PS4 pro. I think it has improved anti-aliasing.

I've been watching MANVSMAN play the game and I cant wait to play it myself.
the way it was being promoted was a turnoff to me but when I saw it on a show interviewing the developers it hooked me.

I'm near 100% completion of the game, and it's fantastic. It's pretty much everything I was hoping it'd be. It's definitely a game that can be a topic for some deep conversations, after acquiring the true ending. Sorta like From Software games, or Metal Gear Solid. And though it's not mandatory for enjoying the game, knowledge of the original Nier game will enrich the experience.

Just bought the game yesterday and I'm super excited to continue. The beginning is the exact same as the demo.

Some knowledge of the first game isn't needed, but it will help enrich certain plot elements of Automata.

Maybe I will find the first game and play it first
