North vs Baker
North or Baker

Alright we all know who Nolan North is. The man has been called "the nearest thing the video game industry has to a bona fide leading man". He's brought the characters Desmond Miles(Assassin's Creed) and Nathan Drake(Uncharted) and has since lent his talents to several games, and animated shows, and doing a pretty damn good job.
Then we have Troy Baker. He's been around for quiet a while having some minor roles in various animes and video games, but has only come to real prominence in the last few years after showing that he can do characters that are just a memorable as North's, especially recently with The Last of Us in which he plays Joel, The Joker in Arkham Origins(the only good thing about that game by the way), and even as the villain in the upcoming Far Cry 4.
So, what do you think? Who's the better V.O. actor? Who do you like to see more of? Who does the best voices? Who has the most ranges? Who plays the better characters? Tell me what you think?

Gonna go with Troy Baker (Even though I've only heard him in the FarCry 4 trailer) simply because Nolan North's voice acting really pisses me off. Well maybe it's more of Desmond's personality but that doesn't change my mind. So my preference right now would be Baker.
I can't really judge who's better since I've heard very little of Troy Baker and therefore don't know the extent of his voice range and I'm just a little bit biased against Nolan North for Desmond, although he did a good job as Nathan Drake in Uncharted as I recall.
I'd like to see more of Baker given how little I've heard of him until Farcry's trailer.

I must admit it never really mattered to me who did the voices. Lately I would only go with Baker cause he is the man of the moment. He been the main voice in a few major games lately. Outside of Joel he also did Booker Dewit(Bioshock Infinite)and Delsin Rowe(Infamous: Second Son). Really only heard of him though cause they did article on him that was on yahoo and then another in GameInformer.

- What blinkgirl above me said (Joel is from Last of Us btw)
- Snow Villiers (Final Fantasy XII games)
- Kanji Tatsumi (Persona 4)
- Two-Face and Robin (Arkham City)
- The Joker (Arkham Origins)
Honestly, I could keep going on, but it'd be too long a list. The guy is almost catching up to Nolan North in terms of frequent roles these days.
Also, Desmond was a lame character in general. If you really want Nolan North's best roles, play Uncharted for Nathan Drake, Resonance of Fate for Vashyron or Deadpool for... well, Deadpool lol.

See now I know all of those characters but never realised they were all played by the same guy! I'd pick them up but I don't want to spend money when I'm saving for a next-gen console...or decent PC (Debate for another day).
I know, its just that his personality really REALLY pissed me off more than anything.

Well, Baker didn't really come into the spotlight until he started appearing in AAA title games as lead characters. People heard his voice and they loved it. This was after getting spoiled by Nolan's voice for years and for a while Nolan didn't really do much other than use his own voice to play characters. Honestly, Baker does several more voices than North. Baker's show several times that he can manipulate his voice to the point where it's unrecognizable, the best example is the Joker from Arkham Origins. And then when I first played the Last of Us, I didn't even realize that he played Joel until I looked it up! The only time I've ever really heard Nolan change his voice is in three instances: When he played the Penguin in the Arkham series, when he played as Zod in Injustice, and when he played as a minor supporting villain in The Last of US.

Don't forget:
Booker Dewitt from Bioshock
Joel from the Last of Us
Vincent from Catherine
One of the voices of the Male Protagonist from Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV

Listen to Deadpool from his eponymous video game. Or rather, I'll link it.
As for Baker's greatness, since he seems to be the more popular choice in the thread, I'll link thrice as many awesomeness.

The Joker (Arkham Origins)
Baker is probably the only person I consider a worthy replacement for Mark Hamill for the Joker. They made a good call there.

They really did, but unlike Mark Hammill, Baker probably isn't going to be the joker for the next twenty years. I'm thinking he might do it a couple more times, because he's the closest we've come to Hammill, but Baker's time card is probably filled 24/7 at this point.

[color=#ff69b4]I like Troy Baker a lot more then Nolan North, but they are still both some of the best actors in Video games right now.
I love Troy baker because in everything he is in you can tell that he's putting a of feeling into what he is doing like with what he did with Joel from The last of us and Booker Dewitt from Bioshock. You can tell the man the man loves what he dose and wants the people he plays to feel real even in some of the little roles he has had. The man is one of my favorite voice actors. I hope I get to meet him at the conventions I'm going to in a week.
Now I'm not saying the Nolan North is not a voice actor, but not a lot a people like Desmond from Assassin's Creed and everyone loves Nathan Drake from Uncharted I just don't see him a lot in the ones I play. Yeah he plays Deadpool in MvC3, Sergeant John Forge in Halo wars and The Prince from Prince of Persia, but he's just not someone I'll go "Oh shit Nolan North is playing x in the new game" like I would for Baker.
For me It's Troy Baker hands down. I like Nolan North, but I love Troy Baker.

I think the main difference is that Nolan is a safe bet no matter what we see him in. He's a professional and he delivers each and every time in a satisfying way. But Troy, like you said, puts so much zeal into his performances that whenever we hear he's going to be in something nowadays, we get so excited to see where he'll take it. You've basically got "Tried and True" vs. "Passionate Wildcard".

I think one of Nolan's best roles was actually a character in Alpha Protocol. I think his name was Steve maybe... he played some crazy psychopath and it was unlike any of his other roles that I had heard before.
But either way, Troy Baker is way more style and I already like him a lot more. I didn't know he was in Persona 4, I've heard that one has a pretty good dub?

Troy Baker has an impressive voice, from funny like in Saints Row to Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid V.
