I have to wonder in a day and age of WoW and Many other MMOs.Does anybody look back at the days of gone by and remember the good old pen and paper role play games like Deadlands,7th Sea,Exalted and hell even D&D second edition Dark sun.I play a multitude of these older games maybe its because im old or crazy I dont know.I was wondering if any fakku members played or still play in any today.

To this day, I still once and awhile fire up that 11 year old ongoing D&D campaign with my friends and revel in the glory of D20s and Will saves.

I like to play D&D and WoD if everyone else is playing it. I wouldn't run a game but its fun to try it out at Cons and Comic book shops.

I've always wanted to play D&D pen/paper, but I don't have anyone to play with. I guess I could experiment with it over Skype or some other VOIP. I don't have any of the books, though...
If anyone is willing to start a group over the internet, feel free to send me a message and point me to where I can grab a copy of the required books online. Then I can just write a program in C++ to roll a 20 sided die.
Edit: Found a program already for rolling dice.

that would be cool and all, but we would have to find a website with a good program to run the game on. If ya find one, let me know.

I don't understand why you would need a program to run it on. Couldn't you just use Skype and someone DM? Like I said, I haven't actually played D&D yet, and I grabbed all of the books for 3.5 last night so I don't understand how everything is run right now.

It's nice to have a map with squares and have all the information around so you don't need to keep asking people to repeat numbers that you can't keep track of. You can play the game freeform or on whiteboard, but having a basic square grid adds another level of tactical complexity, which I really enjoy.

So, the kind of map/grid information program you're talking about is something along the lines of this: http://rptools.net/doku.php?id=maptool:intro ?
It looks good, and it even has VOIP on it. I found it when browsing the D&D forums from WotC.
Edit: Never mind, they had a line referring to VOIP software, commending Skype and mentioning Teamspeak and Ventrilo.

I prefer the OpenRPG program. It has more storage area for information, built in trackers for skills and feats, whiteboard functionality, and I sort of know how to work it.
It looks like we may be trying to run an online D&D game, with the help of a few programs. Anyone interested send me a PM.

Aww, man. I'd love to play D&D again! But I can't dedicate any amount of time to a nice serious game like that. I've recently had temptations to re-join some MUDs, but ehh. Time becomes such a valuable thing.

Ill admit D&D 3.0 and 3.5 wasnt bad but it just kinda annoyed me with so many numbers.Ill give it to them they did the one thing white wolf did in some of their old editions and went "hey lets put so much random junk into our game people will have to buy all of them to understand how all the F***ing game play mechanics,".which made me a bit sad when they went to 3.0 from second edition.
