On the subject of FPS games...

Am I the only one who plays games for the sake of enjoyment and not fan wars? I think all FPS communities have grumpy people simply because they either invest too much in their games or need a anger venting outlet. I like CoD and Battlefield games, Halo? Not so much. But I don't care which 'side' you choose or what type of game you play, I just run around and tossing C4s because I got some downtime after work or college.

Lately I've been playing games because I'm bored not because I'm having fun.
ON subject to the thread, Its more like "HURR DURR WHY DO YOU LIKE WHAT I DON'T LIKE?!?"
Btw I like Halo because it has some of the old school arena fps elements like quake... even tho its very minor nowadays

Why choose either side when you can be an even bigger smug prick like me by disparaging all sides and declaring their respective games garbage. Playing quality games is the result of having standards; brand loyalty is for suckers.

I feel like this matter is simply a topic on the playground for young kids to argue about because their moms can't buy them new games so they stick with the ones they can only play and call out others. Although, that's just a guess since I just recently passed by a public jr. high and two kids arguing about CoD and Halo. Tsk tsk.

As a whole, FPS games are my favorite genre, but I mainly play FPS titles that are more single-player oriented such as The Darkness 2, Far Cry 3, Syndicate, Bulletstorm, and Rage. The only times I can actually enjoy multi-player is when I'm playing with friends on my team, as I'm prone to getting pissed off by the far-too-common bouts of incompetence from my teammates or by the numerous assholes that populate the online community of most FPS games.

Yeah I enjoy FPS games, but I prefer something with more tactics involved like Splinter Cell. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy the arcade shooting style, its pretty fun.

I play FPS to have fun and headshotting midgets in BL2.
Or to piss off elitist trash AKA clan members who think too much of themselves.

Mostly I play games for fun, and sometimes I like to play a serious match of something.
I try to never get angry at the game or other players if I lose, I just try to play games that I like, and occasion play a serious match of something. Strategizing and coordinating everything with friends.
But in terms of try harding and playing ONLY to win... Jef Major said it best.

I'll play it if I find it to be fun. Personally I prefer games like TF2 or L4D where it is more than just "be good at shooting dudes" which is why usually I'm not to big on CoD or Battlefield. Maybe Nazi Zombies sometimes, but even that is still just "shoot dudes well" and not much else.

I think the resentment between FPS communities is largely vocal minorities butting heads against each other. It takes a fair bit of time to get good at a certain game (same with any pursuit) and you don't like hearing the other side talking shit about something you spent a lot of time getting good at; this goes back and forth until everyone is twisted up in knots and frothing mad at anyone who disagrees.
As for myself I play whatever strikes my fancy at the time and as much as I enjoy multiplayer FPS games I accept that I'm pretty terrible at all of them. Single player campaigns are fun but occasionally it's a difficult value proposition to make if I'm spending $50 for a new game and can blow through the campaign in 6 hours. Not saying that there needs to be any correlation between how long a game is and fun per dollar; it's entirely a personal bias.
