Since no thread exists with the Ratchet and Clank series, (as far as I know, did a forum search but nothing came up) I'd figured I'd make one!

PS2

Original quadrilogy:

* Ratchet & Clank
* Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando / Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked & Loaded
* Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal / Ratchet & Clank 3
* Ratchet: Deadlocked / Ratchet: Gladiator

Extra:
* Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (Also on PSP)

PS3

Future series:

* Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction
* Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty
* Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in time
* Ratchet & Clank: All 4 one

Mobile

* Ratchet & Clank: Going mobile

I'm currently in the process of going through Ratchet and Clank 3 without armour whatsoever, seeing as I've played the game so many times I know the game like the back of my hand. I'm on Planet Mylon (the final level) on the first playthrough and it takes 2 hits to kill me.

> MFW

My favourite games from the list is R&C 3, for its replay value and the weapons, and Deadlocked for the fact that it's just nothing but combat and you can modify your weapons however the fuck you like. There's no puzzles to get in your way and waste your time either, and it's full of really dark humour from Dallas and Juanita. The entire game is full of cold, hard combat. Fuckin' love it.

Anyone played any of these games? I'm a bit of an obsessive follower of the R&C series, I'll have to admit. I remember first getting introduced to the games when I first got my PS2 back in 2002 and it came with a Demo disk, and Ratchet and Clank was on it.

Update: I'm on challenge mode on R&C3, I'm up to Holostar Studios. I get killed in 2 hits. 1 hit if I didn't have the Nano-pak.

I think I stopped playing after the 4th one. Actually yea, I'm sure of it. They were actually pretty fun games and the humor in them made me laugh. Although I was maybe what, 14-15 or something at the time the first one came out I guess.

I LOVED these games when I was a kid. The Jak Series and the Ratchet and Clank Series were my favorite games on the PS2, I have countless challenge modes on all of them because they never get old.

played all the ones on the ps2, then stopped cause i didnt have a ps3...Now I do...thinking of finishing wat I started

I have all the PS2 ones including Size Matters. No PS3 so no Future series. Size Matters is the worst of the PS2 bunch. On your no armor UYA playthrough are you limiting your weapons as well?

The only ones I've played were the PS2 versions except Deadlock. Up Your Arsenal <3 <3 <3 played it like 20 times, literally.

I don't have a PS3 so I can't play the Future series.

I've played all of them except "All 4 one". The third one "Up your Arsenal" was definitly my favorite one. This series is awesome and they probably should do an HD remake collection for the first 3 or 4 PS2 games.

I own all the PS2 releases, including the port of Size Matters. Deadlocked is by far my fav, and I still play it.

I bought & played every single one of the games of the series along with Jak&Daxter. Then for no reason Jaks story went stupid & killed itself so I continued to follow Ratchet & Clank.

Ive yet to buy All4One though because I cant stand obvious ploys to vamp more money out of an amazing series by making a shit entry that impacts in such a stupid way to the series. I also didnt care too much for Deadlock with its coop adventures so adding 3 more people to the formula for anything other than online distractions seems like a sin to me. Plus, Ratchet & Clank for me always felt like some damn good humor along with one guy going from planet to planet blowing shit up, not one guy & his fucking hilarious sidekicks forcing funny going on an adventure on ONE planet.

Also on a closing not Going Commando was my favorite Ratchet & Clank game. Full o funny, customization, content, difficulty, & explosions. Oh gawd the delicious explosions.

At the moment I'm not limiting weapons. I was thinking of doing Challenge mode with no armour first, then if I find that it's possible, trying to limit the weapons I use. Maybe 3 per level or something.

I found R&C 2 really annoying because of the locations of most of the Titanium bolts, like missing no rings in the Space races. That made my blood boil. And some of the skillpoints, like Wrench Ninja II, where you had to go through the entire level with just the wrench but if any of them died by NPC-controlled Turrets you had to start all over! You could tell that Insomniac games had fun making that game though, 'cause it was pretty funny

That wrench ninja challenge pissed me off, they kept walking in front of the turrets their teammates were shooting, and the space missions were such an easy way to farm bolts, especially if you had the nuke.

Yeah I hear that. The workaround I found would be to Charge Boot-rush to the turret and knock the wanker off of it before it could kill anything, and keep doing that until all the enemies with swords are dead. The ones with guns don't take over turrets, I've noticed.

That Nuke was also an easy way to get Raritanium for Ship upgrades. Perhaps a little too easy...

played all the ones on ps2. Pretty fun times in the arena getting to level 100 in each game.

Big part of childhood right there.

I remember spending so much time in R&C 1 getting enough bolts to buy the R.Y.N.O. (seriously, 250K bolts was really hard to get back in '02) then just devastated damn near everything every time I played through it.

IMO, R&C 2 was the hardest one out of the entire PS2 series, took forever to max out your weapons, your max nanotech was harder to max out because you had to find the little vials that give 1 nanotech, mining for those lunar crystals was almost a death sentence since to many of those yetis and leviathans can fuck you over - still a great game.

I replayed each game so many times, the little "R(?)" that keeps track of how many times you beat it just stayed at "9".

Now I feel like devoting a week to just playing some R&C.

It would be fun if the cycling weapons thing from Annihilation Nation could be applied in regular play. I really want to try doing UYA and/or GC without armor now.

You have my respect for having the patience to collect all the Titanium bolts and skill points in GC. I was too lazy to even bother with the sewer crystals in UYA or those moon stones, raritanium, and other violet crystals in GC. I take it you did the same for all the others games in the series?

The giant clank and space battles were the most annoying part of GC and the original for me. Clank just doesn't have the mobility of Ratchet.

GC and UYA were my favorites in the PS2 series. The original was good but after playing those two with strafe mode available, the original become a pain to play. Deadlocked feels too impersonal and more like I'm fighting with a robot. Size Matters can fall off a cliff.

Are the game titles meant to have some sexual innuendos in them?

Going Commando --> naked
Up Your Arsenal ---> up your ass (arse)
Deadlocked ---> bondage
Size Matters ---> size matters
Tools of Destruction ---> sex toys??????
Quest for Booty ---> quest for booty
A Crack in Time ---> ass-crack

Maybe I'm just a pervert but it feels like these names were on purpose. Thoughts?

Went through and collected all the collectables and skillpoints for all the games for the PS2 except Size Matters, and A Crack in Time. Tools of Destrution I got bored with all too easily, All 4 One I can't be arsed to collect all the Hero bolts for and Quest for Booty is only an hour's worth of gameplay.

I personally loved the Space battles in GC, just not the races. I want to blow shit up, not race someone damnit!

Giant Clank in the original was badarse. Was less fun in GC I'll admit, far too much time taken to destroy buildings or helicopters or UFOs on legs which somehow heal you when they get defeated by Melee. And that skillpoint where you have to defeat the Thug leader using only Melee, FUCK. After 10 minutes I wanted to scratch my eyes out! >_<

My favourite Giant Clank appearance was at the end of the original for the first part of the Drek fight; I get a sick satisfaction from seeing all those Blarg troops and dropships getting defeated from just using one bomb. *evil grin* Especially after, as you said, killing anything is a pain in the arse due to the lack of an efficient strafing system.

And yeah you aren't imagining it, the titles are meant to have innuendos in some way

By god. Take my rep, use it to inflate your e-penis and destroy your enemies.

Have you played any flight sim games? Ace Combat is the only one I have so, have you played that? The space combat in GC is good but it feels a bit planar and slow. It's not expected to be amazing or anything it just feels kind of flat and too easy compared to a dedicated flight sim game. The hoverboard/bike/whatever races were pretty good though.

Killing small things with a much larger body is always somehow satisfying. The ending to the original was really satisfying. It managed to combine all the main points of the game into a smooth battle that wasn't irritating and didn't make you get stuck doing one part of it over and over.

The platforming in the first three games is really good. The grind-rail is just a blast to ride on. Its too bad they took out the Levitator and Glider from GC those were quite unique in their own way.

Thank goodness.

I'd be lying if I said I did, closest thing I've played to a flight sim game besides R&C is San Andreas, with all them cool helicopters and planes, my favourite being the Hydra. That shit was fun! The mechanics for the Space battles were simple but I think that was the idea; not too hard, but not too difficult with stock-everything.

The boss fight and the level was satisfying and mouth-droolingly difficult, but I wasn't satisfied with the ending. They fall off the Deplanetizer and somehow wind up outside Ratchet's Garage, it's like "whut?"

The grind rail has been in every game so far except in R&C 3, they should've kept it for that game as well, even if it was only one level... but that's just me being picky :P

After looking up a video of the Hydra, it looks like it would be fun if cops (and the military) were after you.

Yeah, they should noticed the Deplanetizer right next to the garage when they landed and just landed directly on it to save the trouble. Oh well, in a universe where that storyline can happen teleportation while falling is a minor unrealistic concept. Yeah you're right, it feels weird now that I think about it but the grind-rail wasn't in UYA. The falling from drop ships into battles kind of "replaced" it.

OOOOH it is. It gets boring fast though, 'cause the only thing that can keep up with you are more Hydras, but while it lasts, it's fun to shoot them down with the Heat-seeking rockets.

On the in-game map it's in a different area entirely. looks like that is the case though, unrealistic airbourne teleportation for the sake of storyline, one where "The players aren't supposed to realise the little "mistake" because it's smack-bang at the end of the game" and one that's used as an excuse to get the two out of there, because the weird fan-looking platform things all fell down while chasing Drek
