Tales of Graces
0
Description
Tales of Graces is set to be the 12th mothership title and the newest generation in the Tales series exclusively for the Wii console. It follows lead character Asbel Lhant, who desires to obtain greater strength. Its characteristic genre name is Understand the Power to Protect RPG. It is expected to be one of the longest Tales games, with the main story spanning up to 70 hours.
Synopsis
Tales of Graces takes place in a world known as Efinea. The people of Efinea use a substance called Eles which is composed of another substance called Cryas which has allowed civilizations on Efinea to flourish. On Efinea there are three competing kingdoms: Windol, Strata, and Fendel, which are competing for dominance of Efinea.
In the remote region of Windol lies the city of Lhant. The eldest son of the feudal lord Aston, Asbel, is a bright and cheerful boy who spent his childhood like any other carefree boy does: enjoy everyday together with his irreplaceable friends. After an unknown incident occurs, a strong determination awoke within him which led him to enlist himself in a knight's academy in the capital.
Tales of Graces takes place seven years after the incident. In his eighth year, Asbel has grown up and established himself as a fine knight. However, at the death of his father, Aston, he gives up his dream to become a knight and takes over his father's position of a feudal lord.
Battle System
Tales of Graces battle system is the "Style Shift Linear Motion Battle System" (SS-LMBS). In this system, characters have two different fighting styles to choose from. Skill of either style can be set to both the A and B buttons, and the player is able to freely switch between the styles in battle.
Characters are also able to sidestep in a 360 degree line around the enemy.
This is not a "Flex Range" system, like Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, and Tales of Vesperia. the battle system uses cc, not tp.

It's looking good so far, I plan on getting this one for my collection. I just hope it's storyline is better than Tales of Symhponia DOTNW.

The landscape walkabout was somewhat meh, but then I saw the combat and I got fired up! Looks good, seems they got some nice flow going along with dodging and countering that should make this one of the best Tales games to date. ...now if only I had a Wii.

Hm, if they could manage to create a fluid battle system between the FR-LMBS and this SS-LMBS then they will have created perfection that no other action JRPG could ever beat. *nods*
I wouldn't worry about it being as sub-par as Dawn of the New World though, DotNW was meant as an Escort title from the beginning, so they never gave it the care or attention of a game in the main series. I look forward to it, I can dust off my Wii for a coupe of months and then probably let it collect dust again after I play it.

Dunno if everyone here already knows but just incase,
so far the 4 confirmed characters are Asbel,Shelia,Sophie and Hubert.
A recent scan I saw shows that Shelia is a healer and mage, and Hubert fights with dual blade, and can somehow change them into guns.
Also, its using the CC system from Tales of Destiny Remake, where techs just take a certain amount of CC, but you can use as many attacks/techs you want till the CC meter drops to 0 or is too low to use techs that you have set. You can chain any tech to any other tech and throw in regular attacks, and doing things such as guarding and critical hits will refill the CC gauge quicker than standing still. Hopefully they wont modify it, or if they do, they find some way to make it even better than it already is!

I'm a long-time fan of the Tales series. I would love to add this game to my collection. But I don't own a Wii and have little desire to purchase one.
Does anyone know if you'll be able to use a GC controller or a classic controller?

I sure hope so.
The Wii controls usually suck.

using the wii remote when you don't have to is usualy a garunteed loss, don't believe me? Play some smash brothers.
No real Opion on the game... I like tales of symphonia but I couldn't get into the others ... my angel obsession guided me through symphonia...

I was wondering when someone was going to make a thread about this :)
Ah, sure is refreshing to see a Tales main hero with a heavy emphasis on magic, especially when the fight system looks as fluid as it does. That side-strafe move looks like it'd be pretty awesome.
I'm pretty sure, from how it looks right now, the battle system will be well-off. However, two concerns: Story and controller. Please, for the life of me, use a classic controller.

Id love to see another tales game for the wii, ToSDotW was great but far too short.
The battle system looks better than TotA and im pretty sure this game is going to have a good 50+ hours of gameplay and sidequests.
Alternate clothing ftw!
Joke weapons that are stronger than the best weapon FTW XD!
The Final "FINAL" Boss ftw :o
Tales games For the win... Period
Btw, The battle system resembles DMC3 combo system a little.

This game was one of the reasons I got a Wii. For about half the price of a 360 Elite and 2/5 of the price of s PS3 Slim, I got a pre-owned Wii. There are more than enough games I can get right now, and more that are coming out in the future such as Tales of Graces, Dragon Quest X, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, the next Zelda, the next 2D and 3D Mario games and Monster Hunter Tri, that really make it worth the £115 I paid for it. If you soft-mod the Wii, you can play all the games off an external HDD too.
As it says on Wiki (and in the first post) the storyline of Tales of Graces is meant to be one of the longest in any Tales game, potentially taking 70 hours (that's the main storyline, not including side quests, hidden bosses and unlocking everything in the game). Tales of Symphonia's main story was shorter than that IIRC but I still spent at least 250 hours on it, replaying it through with New Game+ in an attempt to unlock every last thing. That's the thing I like most about the Tales series; the ridiculous amount of things to unlock and level up. I prefer DQ for the exploration and usually prefer FF for the characters and storyline, but Tales games just have so much to do in them and so many cool things to unlock, like all the costumes and titles.

That's what they said about Tales Of Vesperia, andI still beat it in 35 hours, half that time. xD

Know what you mean. Graces is the only thing keeping me from selling my Wii right about now.

It was announced in a Tales of Graces press conference that the OP will be sung by BoA, and the song name is 「ã¾ã‚‚りãŸã„~White Wish~〠(mamoritai~White Wish~).
Personal pride being taken here because BoA is Korean, and I was surprised that she would be doing the OP.
Confirmed through a streamer.

I actually can't wait for this game. I was sure that the CC system was dead after ToDr but thank Heaven it's back (and from what it looks like, much better!) Hopefully the ending doesn't crap out as bad as Vesperia's did.
Also on the subject of Vesperia. There was a RUMOR (I can't stress that enough) that the Voice Actors from ToV were called in. Hopefully that's true and we will be getting the PS3 version and the Movie.
