Yeah, I more than expect it to take upwards of a year's time for a localization even if one were to assume the game will be localized.

Recent example of Vesperia aside, it isn't uncommon for a Tales game to take over a year before it is localized in the United States.
Aside from that, Namco Bandai isn't in great financial shape. The fact that they announced Tales of Graces for localization comes as a surprise considering not only a month or so before Namco Bandai was quoted stating that people could expect no more Tales games to get localized.
JRPGs are getting more and more expensive to develop and the revenue isn't increasing, and in most cases is actually decreasing. It is very possible that the JRPG genre will cease to exist outside of Japan, and possibly disappear altogether unless big name developers like Namco Bandai, Square Enix, and tri-ACE take a risk and try new things. Unfortunately people have already demonstrated they don't like change. tri-ACE took a leap of faith with End of Eternity/Resonance of Fate and it got a rather lukewarm response.

Ugh, that really sucks; I was still hoping for PS3 ToV, too...
I wish they rereleased Tales of Eternia(though I still have it with a 60GB). Summoning Sekundes was always awesome.

Speaking of tales of vesperia, they said before that it would be an XBOX 360 exclusive until bandai namco announced that it will be ported to ps3. With this, it really crushed most of their fans for betraying them with the ps3 port, and most of them felt they were like beta testers or guinea pigs so that the ps3 will be flawless. The same goes for tales of graces that just got a ps3 port, so the wii owners felt like beta testers too(anyways, tales of graces was already a buggy game to begin with). My comrade told me that bandai namco are not traitors, they just do it just that the company should stay afloat and stable. I suppose when they made TOV, it should have also a ps3 release(you know like multi platform releases just like w/ some of the western game developers) so that fans will not feel like they're just beta testers.

Yeah, not sure what happened with Tales of Graces and Tales of Vesperia. Popular rumor with Vesperia was that the monetary funds that Microsoft supplied to keep Vesperia an exclusive was only ever an agreement upon a "timed exclusive" and that Namco Bandai used those funds to fund the port on the Playstation 3. So, that's really a kick to the pills.
Tales of Vesperia I can accept. I always thought it would find its way on the Playstation 3 at one point or another. The Playstation 3 is just a more popular console as is the Wii. That said, alienating the Wii audience with what happened with Tales of Graces seems like a really bad idea. Alienating an already weak Microsoft fanbase can be justified with business, but it hardly seems enough to justify alienating the Nintendo audience.

Tell me about it. I've probably beaten Abyss at least half-a-dozen times over the years. Probably would have been a lot more had I not gotten my 360 a few years ago and found myself still playing my PS2 regularly. Good game, good game. Assuming this does get a localization I will definitely get my hands on a 3DS for the title.

The only tales game I have played was Vesperia, but I have a bunch of friends that are urging me to get this when it comes out, so ill definitely pick it up

The only reason I picked up tales of the abyss for ps2 because I cannot afford an XBOX 360, But I can afford to buy the game disc alone. *sigh* W/ the release of Tales of graces f for PS3 for the U.S. version, I shall now correct the past! hehehehe...
Update! The release date for Tales of the abyss suddenly disappeared from Amazon.co.jp! Could this mean they're moving the release date to another month? Hmm...

Well, anyway, like I said, it has been confirmed with a 2011 release date for the United States and a 2012 release date for Europe (no news on other PAL region countries). Also, the game has been delayed in Japan until June 30th, rather than May 19th.
I'll get the citation when I can, I lost the webpages I got them from, but shouldn't take too much digging to find them again.

I'm a little confused as to why the release dates are so far apart for each region. Seeing as there is no new content, doesn't that mean everything is translated and ready to go? Unless I'm wrong about there being no new content...
To end on good news, Tales of Graces f has been confirmed to have a 2012 NA release date.

Sigh... I guess I need to extend my patience a wee bit more...
