I ended up dropping Dark souls. It's just not my type of game. I find myself just wanting to fight the bosses and that it's and I'm not having a lot of fun with the combat in the game. I played about 5 hours or so be for dropping it and it was free so I can always go back to it.I told you it wasn't for you, even if you did keep playing you like games with a story to guide you. Dark Souls has a story but you really need to read into everything said, that you can read, the areas, a random rock on the ground, why a cloud looks like a leprechaun... or just watch someone like Vaati tell you about the story.
This is so true. This is not your average game where everything is just spoonfed to you.
Of course, I still believe deep down that anyone who doesn't like the game is an enormous casual scrub. Don't mind me.[/h]

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner.
It's temporary, but this game is way harder than the first. I feel like playing something that isn't a hack and slash for now.
Since it's temporary, it kinda doesn't count. I did drop more than one game, though.
Diablo 3. This game isn't fun.

Dark Souls. Played it for 4-5 hours and was broken by the game. I heard it was hard but that was ridiculous.
Plus I like a game with a good story, Dark Souls lacked that.

It's a very passive story, you have to read item descriptions and make up your own story as you play.

That's not my type of game then. I like the game to envelop me in its story rather than me have to come up with that. I generally don't play games to be too creative rather than rest my creativity.

That's it, now the gloves are off.
Dark Souls has a story. It has a pretty damn good story too, actually. Much better than the stereotypical shit that came tacked on the other medieval fantasy RPGs that released around the same time, especially that POS that so many people considered GotY, Skyrim(job). The difference is not in the amount of content, but in the presentation. It's not just in the items that Medzy mentioned, though. The characters you speak to, the bosses you fight, the variety of locales you visit. The lore and plot isn't spoonfed to you. If anything, this game does "enveloping the gamer in its story" the correct way.
Blaming Dark Souls for not having a good story is the same as thinking The Little Prince is bad just because the audiobook's volume doesn't go too high. If there really was no story in the game, then this wouldn't be as popular as it is.

I could keep going on, but honestly, I've just about had it with people who give this game a hard time just because they need their hand held throughout the game and story, especially this one other asshole I know who talked shit about one of my favourite characters, without even having beaten the easiest boss in the game.
This is Art, and Dark Souls is not that hard, and it's not that bare. Peace.

P.S. specifically to DatYuriThough: still love you girl, sorry for the ramble. 3

You can say it has a good story, and I'll take your word for it, but if the game is so cryptic and hidden that I need to go to an internet forum to have it explained to me then the game had failed the only real thing I ask from any game developer: To tell me a story and not have me go around searching for it. It can be as developed as it wants, have the longest and most exciting lore in all of gaming history but the game made me feel as if all of that was one massive inside joke that I wasn't a part of. Kind of how certain people IRL make me feel day in and day out, and I don't like having that experience repeated by my favourite media outlet.
Also "good" is subjective, something good to me could be terrible to someone else and vice versa.
To me, it's like having a story where the author says "There was a dark and expansive castle that was surrounded in black magic and a dark history that was important to why our hero was there. But that information isn't necessary, jump to the appendix if you want a real explanation on this stuff, all you really want to see is our hero hack and slash his way through it right?" I'm sure they put a lot of time and effort into the story as a whole but I hate it when they don't spoon feed it to me.
If this is art then "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and I certainly didn't see any beauty in what I saw. And I found it stupidly difficult to me, maybe because I don't play hard games and rarely go above the 'Normal' difficulty.
Sorry I had to rant back, not something I like to do with friends but I hate it when people knock my beliefs and argue there's no substance in what I'm saying at all. I could have phrased it better perhaps. Too late now. Love you too~

Spoiler:
I with you on that.
The lore is there and it's good and all, but it's too fucking hidden if you don't know it's there. I'm really big on lore for games so I'll read anything i can get my hands on in the game to find out about me about the world and the story for the game, but I don't think the dark souls lore is there for new players.
I had to ask a friend about something about the story just because the game was not doing a good job with the story it's self. It can be said that the game not telling you anything about the story and whats going on is a good thing, but it can also turn people away for the game if they are looking for a dark story. The only thing you really get out of the game it's self about the story is "The world fucked, you need to go ring two bells, then kill four lords and the king and light the fire(if you want)."
To quote what my friend said.

The would of Dark souls is a very dead one if you don't look. If you do ended up looking you'll find a nice world with a really good story to back it up.
But! From Software have said that the lore is up to the player and not them and they have not said shit about the story for the Souls games at all.
So if it's there for the player to make up the story then for me there is no lore and everyone is just trying to fucking kill you 24/7. :3

Fallout 3. Again.
Things were actually going really, really well. I was RPing as a character I really liked, Parker the Violent Hero. I played without inhibitions; I was an asshole who stood for justice and wanted to help anyone in need, looking for any excuse to take out my hunting rifle and add to my necklace made of fingers. I made it to level 22 with a fortune of about 50,000 caps when I fucked up. Spoiler alerts to you all.
Fuck.

Lost Planet 3.
Not unexpected I guess. I let the steam roll off this one, gave it some time, knew what I was getting into (non Japanese developed, completely different than the others), tried to give it a shot... now I'll admit the story and characters seem decent, the voice acting and all that is pretty natural and good. But everything else, like the gameplay, is just so boring. And that's kind of a big deal.
So yeah, lol.
Also might drop Lightning Returns. I have a love/hate relationship with XIII, but XIII-2 I felt fixed everything and was awesome. Lightning Returns feels like a downgrade in every way.
- Lightning was my least favorite anyways
- Music doesn't seem as good as XIII-2's OST which caught me off guard
- A more versatile one character combat system, but eh, just doesn't feel as cool as the others I guess
- It's too open... how could I say this about XIII? But the NPC's have always had the most boring dialogue ever in this trilogy, and that's all that is pushing this game forward apparently. The most interesting thing so far has been about rescuing this white chocobo.
- The time limit. Okay, I'm cool with having a time limit in the back of my mind... but this is so heavily utilized from locked doors only opening up areas at "X" time, to certain events and missions starting up in some time zone, etc. It's annoying as hell.
I went in thinking the gameplay looked amazing and it'd maybe be my favorite of the trilogy, but it's been about the complete opposite.

Project X Zone. As hyped as I was for that game it got way too repetitive, way too quick. Not to mention I couldn't pick and choose which units I wanted to bring in, I doubt I'll ever finish it.
Right now I'm playing through FF13 when I'm not playing fighters or whatever.

That's the point of the games. It teaches you to get use to all your units.
Plus, Banpresto stayed true to the Monolith formula.

Never played Namco X Capcom, so yeah.
I still would've liked the option to pick and choose units but since you can't really level grind in that game I'd guess it would make more sense but I still didn't like it that much.

It's not really a game about grinding as much as it is about picking the right units and maximizing your combos. You'd be stupid or ignorant to go into this game expecting something like FF Tactics or Fire Emblem.
As for some tips, about halfway through the game, you get every team and unit playable, and almost all the time, they're all on the battlefield. Some solid teams are the Virtua Fighters (you'll love their stun capabilities), the Street Fighters (Ryu has this nasty move which you'll know as SF4's focus punches with the black ink wave that absolutely crushes guards), Thunder-thighs and Succubitch (Chun-li has a similar punch), Reiji and Xiaomu, Haken and Kaguya, and the BSAA team (one of the best multi attacks in the game).
Learn to critical with every move, it helps to gain EXP, and put Heihachi on a team with low block breaking capabilities, like Mii and Kogoro (because the old coot's passive gives him a fantastic 50% chance to break a guard on his first hit).
If you feel like getting back to PXZ, let me know. I'm making a short but clear guide on all the teams and units and their moves.

Reviving to say Max Payne 3.
Game keeps freezing during the cutscene that starts the third to last chapter. Every time. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. And it always freezes at the same general place, forcing me to turn off my PS3.

This is, ironically, the cutscene that causes the game to freeze.

I never drop a game for long, but the last one I did was Dust: An Elysian Tale.
It's a beautiful game, and the creator did a great job with all the detail he put into it, but it really threw me for a loop when I'd hit the graveyard.
A bright and vibrant game with enemies you kill faster than you can really pick out their details because they move nearly as fast as you do having slow-moving, highly detailed zombies, with a decent amount of health, coming after you in a dark and spooky graveyard would freak anyone out due to how out of place it feels.
I plan on beating it eventually, but I just can't get past that one level, even though I love Resident Evil, Left4Dead, and plenty of other zombie games.
I suppose it feeling so out of place is what makes it so scary, when you expect them in awesome horror games, and not in vibrant, story-driven, adventure games.

Because Phil Fish is a douche
Because while I do like the style and creativity of the game, the puzzles are quite challenging, and backtracking in the game is so tedious. I'm not the type to use GameFAQs to find the solution, especially since it's a puzzle platformer and finding the solutions is the whole point of the game. I'm probably not dropping it for good, but for now, I've had enough.
