What VN are you playing? What do you think about it?

Getting into Norn9. Hopefully I'll actually finish it this time, since it's pretty interesting thus far. I still only just chose which guy I want to pursue (you're locked onto a route after the first chapter after you choose which heroine you are), but there are already some inconsistencies. Amnesia-chan (who the game says is Koharu before she even reveals it's her name) is the heroine the game recommends using first, with either of her two choices being ideal for understanding the story. The third option is locked and can only be chosen after completing one of the other two routes. That's not something I have a complaint about and am actually glad to see. I don't want an important event spoiled because I was given the freedom to choose something that was intended for people that already know how the game unfolds.

Anyway, inconsistencies. Koharu tends to refer to people by their last name in text, but her voice actress says their first names, which are also what appears in the side window when a character is talking. It's discussed that the last name should be used while talking to someone unless it's a girl talking to another girl, which makes it pretty jarring that they did that. She also mistook a male character she already knew for a female (it makes sense in context), which had her think of a new name for him. The text had her thinking a lot about feminine names, but the vocal changes with his name were mostly just...replacing -kun with -chan. There's also a flat screen TV in one of the background pictures, despite explicitly taking place shortly before World War I and none of the characters knowing what a handgun is. Nothing major, just something that bugs me.

Oh, almost forgot. Amnesia (not related to the horror series) is part of PSN's Black Friday sale. It looks really interesting, so be sure to snag it for the discounted price before it ends. It's unfortunately digital only, so it probably won't drop from $30 for a long while.

Edit: Finished Dahlia. It's pretty average, though it gets points for being yuri. Unfortunately for it, those points do nothing. The translation is hit with a noticeable amount of errors and typos, with one character's name switching between Yvette (I think), and Eve. It's probably just a nickname, but still something that bugs me. Voice acting itself is fine, but the audio quality on voices is only slightly better than Bible Black's in some cases. The main character was the only one I could really stand to listen to.

Now, characters. Main character is super pure and incorruptable. Dahlia is somewhat spoiled and bratty, but has a good heart. Yvette is all over the place. End turn.

Writing is okay. It focuses on MC-chan living in a pseudo-brothel (all they do there is sleep naked next to old folk. No sex or the like) after being tricked and sold by a pimp. Once she gets used to it, it focuses on her relationship with Dahlia, the girl she works with. Near the end, things get incredibly weird and the game dips in quality. It's sorta foreshadowed, but it's just so out there that it doesn't mesh with the story told beforehand at all. The epilogue is good, though.

Currently replaying the original Kara no Shoujo.

What can I say, the sequel fails to deliver as much as the original did, especially regarding the murders - sure the killings are gruesome, but definitely tamer than those of the first game, which were downright nightmarish.

Got through the first ending of Starless. Escape, that is. It's so incredibly revolting that I nearly vomited during it. It's...not something I'd recommend to those with a weak stomach. Or an average stomach. They supposedly cut out some CGs for the English version, which I'm glad they did.

For the rest of a review, it'll be quick. Art is blatantly Bible Black, as all the female characters have the same exact body (though with slight variations this time!). Things are surprisingly detailed, though. Writing is super fucking dark, with plenty of it being in the shitton of sex scenes that clog up well over half the game. It's a pity they didn't get this type of writing in a normal game, even if the actual writing skill is on par with Nasu's sex scenes. Soundtrack is fairly good for the most part.

Shiny Days JAST localized version. Itaru is adorable x100.

Game crashes so much though in full-screen it's annoying.

Edit: Some of the endings are so strange, and awkward to somehow find.

Euphoria. Meh. An intriguing story where other nukiges would put filler and for what it's worth I was invested at points. However it is still a nukige so it's priorities on sex constantly overshadow the plot and in turn the story required a strong suspension of disbelief. I find it fascinating that a nukige succeeded to upstage better story-driven eroges with some scenes while still being relatively lacking. Oh yeah and there was a lot of scat, guro, etc.

Mayjasmine. Probably one of the more astounding VNs I played last year, clear purpose and the talent to see it through. Loosely based in the Indonesian riots of 1998 being one the most gruesome occurrences of ethnic cleansing to occur in the modern world. The VN is well-nuanced in Oriental tradition, you can tell the writers were raised in that setting from the amount of detail they put into creating these incredibly multi-faceted individuals who are as lovable as they are loathsome. So they make a very effective tools to inform players on how horrible those riots were. I'm hoping that the second episode can meet these expectations.

I found this VN more graphic than some of the more spew-worthy Black Lilith/Clock Up Eroges and somehow it's on Steam.

Finished Seikishi Melty Lovers, VN about knightgirls and boobs plate armor, well not really since the armor doesn't have it.

Sefi route is kinda easy to predict but her sweetness and innocence is cute.
Ruri is typical loli with boob/height complex but I find her route is more interesting than her friend Sefi due Ruri's secret.
Frey is also predictable, but I never tired seeing Kuudere slowly showing her dere side.
Canon route feels like rollercoaster once the drama hits and it's kinda fun.

I give this VN 7/10, ok but nothing special.

man it's been a while since I posted here, I should play more VNs again.

Tried playing it, until I realized I only cared about that character designs and the story is nothing special. >_>

Two routes down on Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai and I feel hooked already. The girls are great and the interaction between them all are solid.

More importantly the MC is not as faggot as Hatsukoi 1/1 was, ugh remembering Runa route made me cringe hard. He's much more proactive, not hetare, and competent.

Marika route is done well and her character development is great. Rikka route is fairly good and her dere side is unexpectedly sweet, way too sweet.

The after stories also feels much more better, not only usual lovey dovey ero scenes but more about growing up/being an adult. Hell I think the after stories takes 3-5 hours to finish, which is quite long.

Playing the English release of Clannad. I know the main story since I've seen the anime, but the jokes involving Sunohara getting beat up are much funnier than in the anime (they happen much more frequently too).

It also gives me a heightened appreciation of the anime adaptation. It must have been a bitch to combine parts of all of the routes into a cohesive story, but by God, they pulled it off.

Playing Sound of Drop.

Very average so far, though it can be eerie and unnerving from time to time. Still, as a horror/surreal story it doesn't work well.

Holoofyoistu The Messenger
I just finished steins;gate. again
its still amazing

luinthoron High Priest of Loli
Solstice. Looks as great as expected, and the story has some quite interesting twists and surprises to it as well. Absolutely no character in this VN can be completely trusted. Well, next time I should actually be able to save the damn city as well, if these people even deserve saving... :D

Question. When does the MC lose the chuunibyou attitude, provided he ever does? I've been trying to play it, but his personality makes me cringe whenever I read anything he says.

I hope the content you're referring to has been taken out of the version i'm about to play! There was an optional patch to add in what they deemed was the disgusting stuff (scat, gore etc) so I hope by not installing that i'll have those removed.

Nice to know it has good writing though, i'll jump on it as soon as I can!

As for me i've just finished Highschool Possession, which isn't really a H-visual novel although it does have some adult scenes that were removed for the Steam release (which is why i got the other one, of course).

The story is an interesting premise but put into practise it's very so so, a guy gets a strange headache and falls into a coma, during this coma he's essentially "taken over" the bodies of the two girls that he likes and switches between them each day as the story progresses. There's four different endings depending on the choices you make throughout the game, although they're very light choices and don't effect the story as much as you'd like them to. It feels like every path should essentially lead to the same ending and the four different endings are just a reason for them to say "look we're interesting". It tackles some very heavy subjects quite head on (bullying and depression) which i didn't expect from such a game but yeah, still very so so.

And the art styles very strange in a cutesy kind of way, it's different but well done.

I'm fairly certain it was the censored version, since a few places that looked like they would have a CG didn't have any. Even despite that, it was...really extreme. Get yourself an iron stomach, since that game will not be easy to get through if you don't have one and aren't into those extreme things.

Finished Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai 星織ユメミライ

I give it 90.

The story development is nice, each heroine developed well, and after stories just wraps everything perfectly. Everyone is literally best girl disregard which route you're on, especially on High School route when friendship comes to play. Interaction between them is solid and fun to read. MC have great quality and the supporting characters are quite good. The graphic is simply gorgeous and music quality is superb.

Great chara-ge to read and obviously much better than previous game Hatsukoi 1/1.

So there are six heroines in this eroge and I'm not completely sold on going through all the routes(although that's subject to change given how early on it is). That being said is there an overarching story, some sort of secret route just something that makes tackling other routes appealing?

In the more plot-relevant(mostly latter) parts of the VN he will drop it completely. Pretty rare to meet a person who doesn't like Okabe's attitude, going to be hard sitting through a VN if you make it a chore mind you. I still heartily recommend Steins;gate for the fact that from the decade and a half Nitro+ has had rousing success with(Saya no Uta, Full Metal Demon Muramasa, etc.) Steins;Gate remains one of it's flagship titles. It's VERY good.

No secret routes, there's only 6 routes and each heroine leads to different path once you enter her route. The game date starts at 31th May, heroine route starts at 9th June and majority ends at 6-10th August.

If you enjoy Slice of Life + Schoollife + Romance genre then it's a pretty nice VN to play.

Not sure if it's negative opinion, but this VN is surprisingly long. It took 50++ hours to finish all the routes so just take your time.
