WoW tips?

Sup ppl,I've been thinking of playing world of Warcraft and was wondering could someone tell me a little bit about it or just give a bit of advise on it. I'm a big fan of RPGs but never played wow so I've gotten bored of these console ones and thought of wow and how cool it looked. Anything that could help this newbie would be greatly apperciated for my future gaming expirence.

WoW is a decent game. Should definitely be experienced if interest is there, but the game is really straightforward and doesn't need much advice or planning.

Well either go back in time and play WoW before Cataclysm or this new... Kung fu panda expansion ever happened if you want to really enjoy it. Or, do what Art said.

Honestly, as someone who played WoW hardcore for years, ide say that it isnt worth getting into at this point. The game isnt as fun as it used to be, and even the story isnt nearly as easy to follow if you haven't played through the older expansions.

If you really want to get into MMOs there are plenty of better options, and Elder Scrolls Online is on the horizon, which looks really awesome at the moment(crossing my fingers it doesnt suck).

Based on what? Mist of Pandaria is widely accepted as the best expansion for WoW since TBC, why wouldn't he want to play it?

And WoW is still the best and most polished MMO out there, if you're gonna start playing one might as well go with the best.

Who would the contenders be? Swtor, Guild Wars 2 and Tera?

By 'out there' I thought you're refering to games of the past as well. If this is about current MMOs as in still under active development, then the only contender I can think of would be EVE. I like how all the games you listed are WoW clones anyway, haha.

Well they were the three latest (unless I forgot something) big MMO's to challenges WoW, so that's why I put 'em up there.

I would consider EVE a contender, but since, aside for the MMO part, they're pretty much in completely different genres I don't really see any point in a comparison.

Well, as Klown said, WoW is, and remains one of the most well made MMO's in existence today (EVE remains THE single most well made MMO ever made imo, but is hardly comparable since they have nothing in common other than being online.)

If you want to play WoW, then go do it. But be warned that with all the expansions that are out, and all the history that the game has can make it a bit harder to get into than you'd think(Mostly community stuff, actual gameplay is pretty simple).

Well, instead of just saying WoW is bad I'll give some advice.

Look on some forums, Skillcapped, Elitist Jerks or even some of the pro websites (Hydramist for example) and take a look at the 5.2 patch notes before rolling a certain class. Start ASAP if you plan on PvPing next patch as the gear climb is rather retarded. You need to go into PvP knowing that you ARE going to get destroyed by people in full pvp gear and while you may win sometimes getting a decent rating in Arena will be EXTREMELY difficult because the people you are facing will have been gaining points and upgrading gear the entire season.

Have been playing since Vanilla(leveling) and TBC(caught up and started raiding).
I am a fan of the lore and the LFG comic but right now I don't like WoW as a game that I would play when I have nothing else better to do.
IMO, the best expansion was Wrath of the Lich King and the worse is Mists of Pandaria. Lorewise the pandas are good but they made changes that I didn't like at all.
And if I wanted to play Pokemon-Online, I would have made an account there!Oh, w8! I already have an account there!

World Of Warcraft is hardly a original game. It's based on Warhammer fantasy from Games Workshop and that about 50% of it. Games Workshop sue Blizzard each and every content, do you have any idea of how large amount of money we are speaking? Thats one reason why they need subscribers.

I've really had those moments when I wanted to play as a Blood Elf. But I never got it, I tried the beta two days and that would be it. Heard alot of negative responses and as someone said above "anything else is good", I'd follow that.

There's so much stupidity in this post that I have to neg you, and I very rarely neg people.

I haven't played much World Of Warcraft mostly because it costs money but I did some googling and found a bunch of guides.

I need to just realm transfer already and find a new group to play with. The community on my realm has been dwindling for years and it's time to take the plunge and head to a high pop realm.

You're so stupid it hurts, and if you only tried a beta for two days and "never got it". You are hardly entitled to an opinion on the matter.

Games Workshop have never even tried to sue Blizzard.

WoW were inspired by the original EverQuest game, and that's hardly a secret. When WoW first came out a lot of people called it an EverQuest clone. Hell, people still call it that sometimes.
