More generally, the suffix -obasan is used
when addressing a middle-aged lady, like
saying "ma'am."

Since Takuya and Yukiko aren't related,
he's using -obasan to express his deep
affection for a woman old enough to be
his actual aunt.

Just to make things complicated, the very
similar -obÄsan is used when addressing
female senior citizens, like a grandmother.
