Intresting story. I hope they both get counseling for their trauma and can move forward. Just licking each others wounds can create a codependent relationship and he has already shown his trust issues and how quickly he could abandon her. For her part a little assertiveness could do wonders for her self esteem, but might accelerate getting kicked out.

He's kind of an ass but I get why he's suspicious. I'm not usually a vanilla guy but I need a sequel where he realizes she's a sweet girl and treats her right.

It is a tough call to make. If someone doesn't have the skills to handle the situation or possibly even the knowledge that they are handling it poorly are they to blame for their actions? At what point in life does our upbringing cease to be a mitigating factor in our actions? You don't blame a child for their poor behavior, you blame the parents for not teaching them. What if they never learn? I have known some 30-40 year old adults with the impulse control of children. Are they better than him just because their issues don't harm others? Yes, they are. But not by much. It takes a strong will to see the problems in your life and try to change and fix them. I don't see him as an ass, but a broken man. I don't feel contempt for his actions or treatment of her, but pity. I don't know if the author will ever continue the story, but unless they break his character or he has an epiphany he will continue to be an "ass" and treat her poorly. In fact the only way I could see a sequel would be either a massive life changing event makes him.wake up to how he has been living or he locks her in a room and assaults her til she dies. Dark stuff for broken people.

He isn't an ass, his attitude is a standard defense mechanism. When someone is abused as a child they develop issues and can't trust most people. They tend to look at everyone as if they are going to betray them at every moment. After enough time you make plans to be the first to betray so you don't get hurt and make excuses like "They were about to do it." Or if there is proof that they weren't "They would do it eventually." You aren't hurt because you initiate the pain. She is submissive enough that he can dominate her and feel like he can make her stay. Once he has confirmation that she had no where else to go he will become nicer, but still fearful of her leaving.

Nah, he can have his reasons but treating people poorly still makes him an ass, especially if she doesn't know why he's being like that. From our narrative perspective we can see his thoughts and go "ok he was abused and has sympathetic reasons for being this way" but until he opens up there's no way of anybody without that viewpoint of knowing that. In any case being swept up in and perpetuating the cycle of abuse still makes him abusive. Considering she's a runaway and makes several vague references to coming from a poor situation it's possible her home was a similarly abusive or neglectful place, yet due to our limited information we can only guess, much like she's shown suspecting but not knowing something in his past happened to give him this harsh edge.

What an adorable reveal of what she was doing on her phone though, he's on one side thinking she's setting up to go sponge off some other guy when in reality she's making a little list of stuff she likes about him.
Some brief flashbacks about his his past, huh. I guess perhaps they are somewhat alike, which might be why he brought her in to begin with, even if it was mostly his underlying motivation for sex.

I'd definitely like to see a sequel with these two. I feel after seeing that list of her's he gonna make sure she's happy. It would be great to see these two not only lick each other's wounds, but legitimately heal from that trauma.
