Not really sure what he could have done at this point except what he ended up doing. Since she's going along with everything so willingly (maybe showing a little guilt but that's it), he's better off accepting her decision and moving on. As for how the relationship started, I really can't tell from that recollection whether it was rape or she was a little apprehensive and the old guy just used a little assertiveness to push her into what she was ok with but was too shy to initiate.
