I say "rubbed," not even scratched.
The most effective ones are the stories based on true events (Most VNs are fictional though, so there's the disadvantage, if they want to bring me to tears (0.0000000001% chance)), although even then they are practically ineffective.

I see that you're very realistic in this regard. I personally try to have similar feelings to the protagonist in the VNs that I play, but that always depends on the way the story is told. In this particular one, I got sometimes pretty emotional due to all the events that ocurred.
By the way, have you played too Muv Luv Extra and Unlimited? (I assume that you have at least played Unlimited although I believe that Extra is also a important part that can allow you to enjoy Alternative a lot more).
