You can if you leave the city. Ghetto studio apt go for 575$ in the fresyes. 450 sqft. 1bd 1bath joints 650 to 795$. My 2000sq ft studio in downtown fresno was 900$ a month in 2006. That was before the fucking gentrifying hipsters invasion. That won't even get a hallway now unless you get a shit warehouse rental.
