@hermit - some of my topic images also disappeared in the past but I don't think it was ever permanent. Dunno what's causing it (or whether it's the same case here) but they'd usually be back after I checked a few hours later. Might be due to server stress or something ...
I've experienced those, but in this particular case, it seriously looks something permanent. Tbh, it's already been days or maybe even weeks since I've first noticed the topic image gone missing...
(The GGP might have kidnapped RIN & Fuego without me knowing it!) :x

It might have something to do with the image's resolution, h/w, or even the file size.
Changing the image's filename alone has always worked for me though.
