I went for Rin. I have no idea why. Rin's my favourite, but she has nothing that truly attracts me, per se. I feel like the game is a personality test of sorts: "who did YOU go for? HA! You're PASSIVE AGGRESIVE!" But Rin. God, I have no idea. I guess cos she's fucking cute in a lost puppy sort of way. She's also irreverently insane, which is always fun.
I think I went for her because she seemed the saddest. She seemed the one that needed the most care. I wanted to make her happy, with hugs. And her happy ending is one of the most positive, uplifting things I have ever read in my entire life. But in hindsight, it makes no sense why I found her the most appealing.
Then again, Mishu and Shizune are total assholes, Lilly is a stuck-up snob, Emi is an over-achiever, and Hanako is deceptive and anti-social. No-one left but Rin, who is... the most morally ambiguous girl of them all. ...that could explain it. She was the least shit. :\

Breen.
He's the dick that everyone loves to hate!
Also I like how he hides his obvious personal gain of not being eaten by aliens behind "it's what is best for our species" and "dear concerned; lul u mad?"
But at the end of the day, here's why Breen is truly evil: he turned on a suppression field that made it so humans can't fuck each other. THAT is the sign of a true asshole.

There are as many truly good female gamers are there are female gamers. I mean, what, are YOU especially good at videogames? I mean, really? You're a "pro," right? NO. You're not. You're as average as the rest of us, I'd wager. And most female games play as well as you do.
Now, why aren't there as many professional female gamers? It could be because it's an image thing; pro gaming teams would rather use big, strong, relatable men rather than soft, squishy women. Maybe it's because women just aren't as competitive as men. Then again, I did see something about an all-female Starcraft 2 team, so maybe I'm pulling facts out of my arse.
Point being, "average" is always the average, regardless of gender. That's sort of what makes it an average. I can attest that there are as many godawfully shit male players as females; probably MORE, on account of the fact that fewer women will stick with multiplayer gaming cos they get heckled to death otherwise. So yeah, if you go the OTHER way from the average? Males are probably WORSE.

Pokemon with Samurais in it, just great, what's next? Pokemon with a Type 38 Arisaka with Bayonet mount? Why are you complaining? You're like those people complaining that "Reveangance" is a stupid name for MGS. It may be so, but that doesn't make it any less camp-flavoured cool. We need more camp. Everywhere. Everything camp. Especially MGS. BUT ESPECIALLY POKEMON.
Me and my bandmates were watching videos of songs we wanted to do. Idiot bandmate who's computer we were on had no adblocker. Pfft! No adblocker?! ...as such, when we went to watch the video for Queen of the Stone Age's "Burn the Witch," this trailer started playing.
Here's how you know the concept is sound: we daren't skip it after the 10 seconds skip-this-ad timer ran out. We just sat there with our mouths open, wondering what the hell it could be ("mirror mirror on the wall..." "...Snow WHITE?!"), and when it finished revealing the title, we all kind of sat back and agreed that it looked really quite good.
I dunno, maybe we were drunk at the time, but that's my indication that this film can't be at all bad.

The best thing about the latest Windows is that they're all backwards-compatible; you can set programs to run as if they were running on Windows XP. There's absolutely nothing I can say against Windows 7. It's the most stable Windows yet, certainly. You'd be quite mad not to use it.
As for language locales (which was mentioned), you can download a little program called Microsoft AppLocale. This lets you change the language locale only of specific applications, so you can run a Japanese locale game on an English locale computer. It's deadly simple; and I believe it also lets you change the OS version for the application as well. So yeah, that's a really nifty tool.

I didn't join Fakku for the hentai. I joined it because of its community of like-minded, funny, friendly people. THAT'S YOU GUYS! :>
...but I feel so hopelessly alone everytime I wander over to that "manga" tab. It's either really strange or really normal that there's so little - well, I'll cut the crap, NO - macrophiliac content. I thought there'd be a collection for every niche fetish possible! But there's not. And it makes me sort of sad. :(
For discussion value: anything you expected to be in that good ol' hentai collection, only to find it wasn't there? And how disappointed were you? D:

I doubt Video games and Visual Novels are the same thing. So no, Visual novels are not video games. You need more knowledge regarding what you write about.
To whom are you referring to? Cos this is exactly the point of my entire article. :3
Azumanga Daioh.
Goddamn it, Rule 34! LEAVE OSAKA ALONE ;-;
Also, Ed from Cowboy Bebop, but Cowboy Bebop hentai is fine cos that Fay is some kind of woman. Also that Spike. That Spike is some kind of woman ;D

Probably Left 4 Dead for $80 on Steam. It was listed at $50, but the price inflation made it $30 more than listed. It was... it was completely worth it, of course. >_>
*sigh*

Besides, considering how on-rails most "real games" are these days, I don't think the difference is as profound as some would claim. The thing that I can see separating shit like an on-rails shooter from a typical click-to-read VN is that the former demands that the player engages in an interactive activity: aim there, shoot that, toohardusenukecheatlol, etc. I've "played" a few VNs and the whole clicking to progress the plot thing seem like the digital equivalent of turning a page. It's also possible to lose in a game through shitty interaction with said activity (i.e., dying because of a noob mistake like shooting air instead of ripping new assholes). People don't "lose" in VNs, they just reach undesirable endings.
My understanding is that VNs are a storytelling medium, while games are (well... SHOULD be) a gameplay-rooted medium. Obviously games can and have been used to great affect to tell a story, but it's within a set of tangible, understandable gameplay mechanics. There are some people who equate "videogames" to "interactive" and leave it at that, but even the simplest of point and click games have a set of systems running underneath. VNs? The interaction is, indeed, turning virtual pages. That's all it ever has to do.
Obviously the VN format COULD be used to create an RPG of sorts, and I've seen it done with... varying degrees of success. In this case, I'd say it's up to the creators to class it as a "novel" or "game," and take their word for it. If they call it a game and you play it and it's more of a novel? You can justifiably call 'em a failure for that.
Here's the clincher though: in the comments for the RPS article, the original author posted that "Katawa Shoujo could be a masterpiece [of a videogame] with a little more editing".
That... I... what... you... ehrufgh FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
So, I just wrote this blog post over on my totally wicked cool videogame review blog that you should all check out and stuff: http://andyplaysgames.blogspot.com/2012/01/not-even-valid-excuse-is-valid-excuse.html

The gist of it is that Rock Paper Shotgun sucks. Okay that's a lie. The gist of it is that standards have gotten so low that VNs are apparently okay to be reviewed as "videogames". I owe this to Rock Paper Shotgun though.
It's basically a little chat that skirts somewhat perilously between appraising everyone's favourite new buzz-manga-anime-novel-thing, and how its popularity with mainstream gaming press is bad news on account of it, you know... being a visual novel, and not a video game. Worth a read, I guess. And a good way to get a little discussion brewing.
So, you know, absorb all that text I linked you to and come back with opinions and counter-opinions and all that; so we can all discuss how completely right I am. ^_^'

Dunno if it's worth mentioning I'm clinically depressed anyway? That probably effects my predisposition towards tearing up.

Hmm.. envy of their perfect ending... how they always say the right thing... do the right thing and have the perfect reaction at the moment tat is require... But tat is all just story... How the director wan them to react Actually, no... I get more depressed when there isn't a happy ending. Or the threat that the happy ending you know is coming, won't happen. I know the characters'll get together and I'm happy for them when they do! It's the rocks along the way that make me depressed. JUST KISS AND MAKE UP GODDAMN IT ;-;
I get depressed when people are having rocky relationships in real life, even - or perhaps especially - people I don't know. I don't get it. :/
...I get really. REALLY. Depressed. Whenever I watch anything to do with romance in animes or mangas. Seriously. So depressed. Like, fucking, blushing followed by endless streams of tears.
No idea why. Sometimes they make me feel lonely, I guess. But sometimes they make me feel bad for the characters in them... I get really attached to their plights and so many anime series are intent on drawing these romantic arcs out over so many episodes and with so many bumps... it's almost too much for my heart. Like, I have to stop watching or it'll rip it two. I get so scared for the poor characters.
The... fake... characters. Who aren't there. They're just cartoons. WHY DO I CRY SO? WHY DO I FEEL SO ROTTEN THAT I JUST WANT TO CURL UP AND DIE?!
I better fucking not be the only person who feels this way about stuff. >:|

Are you ready? Are you ready for this? Are you hanging on the edge of your seat? Out of the doorway, the bullets rip... to the sound of the beat!!
BOM BOM BOM.
Sorry. Been playing it in my band. It really is an infectious little beat poem. Oh look, a hentai.

That's where I first I first heard of the Goon; I watched that trailer, and I was so damned interested I had to find out more. It's so full of stylized cartoon violence and it's dripping with personality. I haven't been able to find any copies of the comics anywhere but online, mind. It is an independent production, though.
I've been catching up on the good Batman comics and graphic novels recently. The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns are probably the absolute cream of the crop.
Beyond that, only must-reads I'd say are Watchmen and V for Vendetta. Other comics I've liked include Hush, Superman: Red Son, and the cult classic The Goon.

I do remember her. Kind of a sad story, she was so coy and so cryptic and teasing that she drove me to the depression I have now. I remember thinking she was the most beautiful thing in the whole world; now when I think of her, I just think she's worthless scum. Don't know if this is true, but it's helped me move on. It's just her meddling interference with my emotional weather is what caused a lot of the crippling emotional troubles I now have today. (Or... so my doctors tell me.)
