I can't stand re-mix butchers of my favorite songs, but every now and then I'll find a re-mix that does better than the original.
Biggest hate is rappers taking a good song and putting their voice over it. Techno remixes I can stand, but some idiot making a dumb rhyme over my song pisses me off.
But overall, originals are how the song was meant to be heard! So I don't really bother with the re-mixes.
I agree, especially the bolded part, Kanye is perhaps one of the only rappers that is good at stealing other people's shit, mainly because that's all he does, but nearly half the time the remixes are an appalling homage to the original (I hated his mix of "Young Folks" from Peter, Bjorn and John).
I also agree that originals are better in the sense that it was the author's intention to deliver the music that way, but sometimes that's not the case as with Linkin Park and their Reanimation album.
In regards to Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. I have to say that I liked Daft Punks better, simply because their sound has captivated me since my naivety/adolescence to the musical maturity I feel I have evolved into today. Not to take anything from Kanye, he's one of the best new artists in a 5 year span, but Daft Punk is what I grew up with, especially Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.
