I haven't dated much, but with the few relationships that I've had, one is particularly painful to me. It was my junior year in high school and I was dating a girl who was one of the most sought after in the high school. A lot of guys were after her, a lot of mean, scary guys...The ones that smoke, wear sunglasses, drive cars, and like to fight.

Anyway, so we were dating for months and we do all the things that couples do. Now this girl had a track record of dating bad "boy type" guys who weren't always so nice and weren't so smart, which made me a total contrast to what her friends deemed as destructive boyfriends. So it was niece's birthday that weekend in a neighboring city, so I was gone for the weekend and before I go, I pay her a visit and give her a "see you later" kiss. To me it all goes well over the weekend, but when I came back everyone is treating me like I came back from a funeral. Next day she sends me a facebook message, not face to face, not a phone call, not even a text message that it was over. It was at least week until I finally got some info out of her friend (who was also my friend) who told me that she went to a party over the weekend while I was gone and did the dirty deed with multiple people. She was drunk that night and one thing led to another etc...stuff like that. I didn't want to believe it so I wanted to talk things out with her because I wanted to get the truth straight from her but she wouldn't answer my phone call and she avoided me at school. To top it off, she returns to her cycle of finding those self destructive boyfriends and those unhealthy relationships. Her friends tell me I was the best thing that could have happened to her, but I guess she never saw it that way.

Looking at all these posts though, my bad relationship is nothing in comparison. You have my sympathies.

Hmm. Well suppliers and such can really always just be replaced if the main guy is offscreen from the players. He can just go "oh, the supply runner died, need to replace them..." Same probably goes for the doctor I suppose. If you want to go for more realism you could have people not die and just be critically injured unless it's just ridiculous (got blown up setting a bomb or such).

I wasn't actually thinking you'd apply to same condition to get a character back in the game for every case. More of something different that makes sense for each case. Jim lost a leg? Need to go find a prosthetic then. Sally was poisoned by an assassin, well gonna have to A) figure out what poison it was and then B) get the antidote. Steve was shot up to all hell? Well, we've done the best we could but he's gonna need more X than we have and advanced surgery tools we don't have. Or whatever. Basically anything that involves expending resources that could go to other things or having to go out of the way to fix it. Thus you maintain the "fear" of failure but, aren't actually stabbing your game in the foot by booting out players. And....sometimes characters will just die (especially if that player would rather just make a new one) and that's fine too.

In Washington, there's this tiny little corner Greek Restaurant that I just... love. I was taken there once, as an adventure. The first time I had gyro with pita... I was in love. The enjoyment I get from a steaming plate of gyro, pita, feta with Tzatziki... few things can compare. It is an almost religious experience.

the thing about greek food though... is it is too easy to fuck up. I'm frightened to try any other restaurants..

Sure, sure. There's no real problem with that... unless the player comes back and says that "I was gone for [insert serious problems]", and wants to play again. Problem is that a new character for a player who played with another player doesn't always help due to their attachments with their previous character.

Hence, forgetting is also a good method in case the player comes back from his life-hurdles and his character can be brought back with minimal explanations provided.

The most simplest way to kick non-devoted players out of the RP is to announce of the fact that they are kicked out, then forget about their character's existence.
