Google maps 8 bit version maybe used something from Old Square Enix RPG games, hence it's name in the title screen.
I don't remember the charSet, but it maybe came from Dragon Quest.

The hard part is not in getting Jap PSN cards but, in finding the actual DLC on Japanese PSN..... i can't navigate that thing at all.You can actually go to the Japanese PSN Store from the Catalog viewer in the game. :D
You can also download catalogs via the game. If you can't find it from the catalog in the game, it's safe to assume you need to switch to a Japanese account.

Lol, don't worry, every DLC in Idolmaster is not useless. Well probably the Avatar and Cash if you were desperate enough for it.
Oh yeah, Keep in mind that you can only buy the songs DLC with a Japanese PSN account. Besides that you can buy anything else with your current account.
