Nah, it's mostly because of the budgets. Most animation companies doesn't have the budget nor the guts to instantly buy the airing rights for more than 1 season. That's why sometimes you see "2nd season will be determined by the saled of the DVD/BD" or "a series is split into 2 cours"

Basically they don't want to risk it all at one series. In the "early age", production cost wasn't as high as now, that's why you see many animes made it into 50 or even more than 100 episodes.

It's more of an economic reason than just "weird business model".

Go with Battlefield 3, play it in either Rush or Conquest.
