No, Suzumiya Haruhi that was released in 2009 is actually a 2nd season, they just never bother to change the current title, hence the 2009 to avoid confusion.

The best example is Kanon. the Kanon(2006) which was made by Kyoto animation is a reboot of Kanon(2002) which was made by Toei animation.

The probability of the 3rd season is slim, due to it's not successful sales of the DVDs/BDs.

showing the "girls" now is a sign that have no plans on the 3rd season.Showing them means, "hey, we couldn't fit them into the anime, so we're giving they're animated version now since we don't plan to make a 3rd season.
