Capital punishment is better, assuming we have plenty of proof that the suspect is guilty. Even if it doesn't reduce crime rates, it still reduces jail costs.
So, are you saying that without capital punishment, the level of proof required to find the defendant guilty is lower? That's a highly sketchy and rather idealistic approach there.
You could phrase it that way if you want. I think I higher punishment deserves a higher certainty of guilt.

UPDATE: So, it's Sunday morning over here, and last night we were watching some BluRays on the sofa when both of us started dozing off. About three in the morning I woke up for a glass of water and then carried her upstairs and tucked her into her bed. Afterwards I fell asleep back on the sofa again.Am I doing the right thing.. or is she expecting me to do something??
There are 2 possible explanations:
1) Like I said earlier, she's testing whether or not you'll do something.
2) She was lying about how she dislikes perverted guys, and she wanted you to make a move on her while she was sleeping.
You said she was honest, so I doubt she was lying. I'm curious though... who's idea was it to watch movies?
Well, I was thinking of it in the first place but it was actually her who brought up the idea. So I went out to buy a ton of ice cream and soda and just watched movies for a few hours.
If she was expecting me to make a move on her while she was sleeping though, I'd probably be labelled a wuss for not doing so :(
In my experience, "wuss" is usually used to refer to someone who is unwilling to do something downright stupid. Like Happydia said, you should never make a move on a sleeping girl (unless that's the type of relationship you're in).
so... are you gonna stop fapping?

Well I can rein myself in of course.. but I just don't understand her way of thinking that's all.Already spent one night at her house and nothing worth mentioning has happened so far... times like these I really wonder what she's up to :(
I'm gonna guess that she'll awkwardly try to do something that will just come off as strange. either way, keep us updated.
I disagree with most of the replies of this thread. I want to define 2 important phrases:
"who you are": (non-physical) characteristics about yourself, Such as your personality, attitude, and preferences
"what you do": the sum of your actions
You cannot change "who you are", but you can change "what you do". having a perverted personality is who you are, but fapping is what you do. If you don't have a perverted personality, then you could meet Elaine's criteria without changing who you are. If you love Elaine more than you love fapping, then you should definitely try to stop fapping.
I have a girl I like in the friend zone. If I could date her by giving up fapping, I instantly would. I fap, but I don't have a perverted personallity, so I don't have to change who I am; I just have to change what I do.
Elaine: I only date clean guys. If you can prove that you're clean then I'll date you
Me: How can I prove that?
Elaine: That's up to you :)
Me: How can I prove that?
Elaine: That's up to you :)
She invited me to stay at her house for the weekend.
She might be giving you a chance to prove that you're not perverted, meaning, this is a test to see if you're perverted or not. You know her better; do you think this would explain her "unexpected" actions?
if this is a test, you sound like you're failing:
I'm probably going to end up banging her
I'm a christian, but I rarely experience problems with atheist being aggressive. This is mostly because I go to a christian school, and I'm not around atheist that often
I try to inform atheist about Christianity, but I respect their beliefs. If they reject Christianity, then they reject Christianity. I have no right to judge them; I would be a hypocrite to do so.
If they attack Christianity with an intelligent argument, I'll try to defend it, and usually take the opportunity to teach them more about Christianity. If they just insult it, I just do my best to ignore them.

I haven't played in a while, but I'd go with flying type:
Skarmory
Dragonite
Gligar (with eviolite)
Xatu
Zapdos or Thunderous
Gyaridos
I also recommend pokemon online, it's so much easier than spending 100 hours building a team.

If you had not talked about your assignment and just started a discussion, you probably would have gotten useful responses.
I think our feelings are directly related to our perception of the people or things we care about. If we perceive something positive happening to someone or something we care about, we experience positive emotions. The same applies to negative things. So now the question is what makes us "care" about something or someone...
I think you care about someone or something by deciding that he/she/it is of importance to yourself. The criteria for importance varies from each individual; some might value entertainment, some might value beauty, etc. Sometimes we can't really figure out why we care for someone; this only applies to people, not things. I don't know what it is, where it comes from, or where it goes, but we call it love: the emotion that makes us human.

Earlier you responded by saying it it was an "ethical choice". You did not respond with "evidence that is actually scientific and statistically significant":
"Homeopathy: what does the "best" evidence tell us?"Complementary Medicine, Peninsula Medical School, University of Exeter, Exeter, United Kingdom.
After reviewing the Cochrane Database of systematic reviews, it was concluded that the effects of homeopathy couldn't at all be determined to be anymore than placebo in effectiveness.
can you post a link?
Oh, and James Randi did a nice fun trick in the beginning of his speeches all the time where he'd down and entire bottle of homeopathic sleeping pills and nothing would ever happen.
Kinda fun, check it out:
Kinda fun, check it out:
That "sleeping pill" was probably just something that balances the body's melatonin; not chemically inducing sleep
and now you're saying that you don't care about my experience. You are contradicting your beliefs; hypocrisy.
...I'm not contradicting my beliefs at all. The FDA relies on studies vetted by scientists to determine what is good for you and what is not. I'm saying that's my standard of evidence at least in order to decide the drugs people ought to be allowed to use.
I'm not pro people being able to treat their kids 'however they want'. IF you think prayer will help when it's been shown to not, and you'd rather pray than go to a hospital, then screw you, you don't get to choose. IF you think homeopathy will help when it's never been shown to be anything more than a complimentary treatment that can be easily compared to a mere placebo effect? Screw you, you don't get to choose.
And when you say, "I should be able to choose because it helped my sister" (which you don't know really) I don't care, because that's not the standard of evidence I'm using. It's not hypocrisy...it's being consistent with my own standards.
The studies by the FDA only test for the drugs ability to suppress the symptoms of the disease, and not actually heal it.
screw you
So... can I choose my medication (that you think is harmful), since your attitude is "screw you"?
As you can see, I was talking about public welfare programs, not immigration
Mm, no you weren't. You were talking about immigration reform policy, because that's the exact part of my post where I was talking about immigration reform policy, and you responded with "They've been trying to compromise it for years."
ok, were gonna play a game:
try to find where there is a reference to immigration. ready... go!
Of course I believe there's too much money spent on public welfare programs and whatnot. However unlike some people I don't think that this means we should outright get rid of it. It's a flawed system, this is to be expected with...ANY human made system. The goal shouldn't be, "If there are problems, abolish it." the goal should be, "IF there are problems, compromise to come to the best conclusion." And fucktards like Ron Paul are the types of people to go, "Screw it! Out with the whole thing!"
They've been trying to "compromise" it for years, it hasn't worked. this is because the system is fundamentally flawed, which is why alot of these programs should be gone
And besides, if we ARE talking about public welfare programs, if you consider something to be fundamentally flawed if it's fallible...then congratulations. Everything in existence is fundamentally flawed. You've stated nothing.
If slightly changing it doesn't fix the problems of it, it's fundamentally flawed
So you can't quote me?
I drew an implicit statement from what you said...or don't you understand what that means?
yes, and I responded to it. (you still never quoted me)[/h]
I'm saying that they receive much more than they give. I'm not saying they "only receive, and do not give".
So then what's the problem? Because natural born citizens end up doing that too. This is not a problem with the immigrants.
source?
"this program is flawed" Because "the people benefiting are being leeches"
Nope. Program's flawed because of how easy it is to obtain benefits, and how much benefits one receives when their application is accepted.
this might sound off-topic, but which candidate's position on this issue do you like best?

FUCKING HYPOCRISY
Oh yes, me not letting personal anecdotal evidence serve as a method for allowing drugs or medical methods to be used because I have contradicting evidence that is actually scientific and statistically significant is hypocrisy.
I have a sneaking suspicion you don't know what that word means.
Earlier you responded by saying it it was an "ethical choice". You did not respond with "evidence that is actually scientific and statistically significant":

They've been trying to "compromise" it for years, it hasn't worked. this is because the system is fundamentally flawed, which is why alot of these programs should be gone
What compromise? Have they for instance...decided that knowing irrelevant american history to become a worker in the united states is logically unnecessary? Have they determined that deciding to plant a flag in the English language and mandate that immigrants learn to speak it in order to work here is inherently bigoted and insane?
Please, tell me what 'compromises' they've been trying to make.
*edited the image link, since it messed up. (it was such a perfect image too)

Spoiler:
As you can see, I was talking about public welfare programs, not immigration
No you didn't, because you also made it sound like the illegal immigrants were coming over, giving nothing to society
there's a quote system; quote me saying that.
So you don't think that? It was an implicit statement made in the idea that immigrants were receiving benefits and you felt this was a negative thing. Implicitly saying that they don't deserve the benefits because they are, in effect, 'leeches', whom only receive, and do not give. IF that's NOT your position, then what you say below this is moot.
So you can't quote me?
I'm saying that they receive much more than they give. I'm not saying they "only receive, and do not give".
"So clearly we spend too much money on government public benefits projects. That's...not really the immigrant's fault"
No...I wasn't saying they were leeching, I was saying there's inherent flaws in the public programs that do subsidizing. How does, "This program is flawed" = "The people benefiting are being leeches."? I don't see the logical line you drew there.
"this program is flawed" Because "the people benefiting are being leeches"

That's...not really the immigrant's fault, now is it? IT just shows that the programs need to be tweaked. You said that the immigrants paid 16 billion dollars in taxes, that's WAY more than I ever figured. Why am I bitching?
because you said:
"Still though, you made it sound like the parents were the ones getting all sorts of taxpayer funded benefits. Still no sources on that front."
I proved my point
No you didn't, because you also made it sound like the illegal immigrants were coming over, giving nothing to society
there's a quote system; quote me saying that.
...and leeching off society's hospitality...which you showed isn't the case. So congrats, you've refuted yourself. I have no problem with the parents getting taxpayer benefits if they...pay taxes.
didn't you basically admit that they leech off society when you said
"So clearly we spend too much money on government public benefits projects. That's...not really the immigrant's fault"
