I believe the common term to describe this scenario is: "Ah, ... This Is Youth." And just from my P.O.V., it's wise that they're 'using protection' (they might choose to do away with such after they graduate).
Perhaps there will be a sequel in which Hiro may have to one day make the choice between Hitomi and Karen, as at this time, polygamy is illegal in Japan ..... unless as was depicted in a classic work that used to be on FAKKU before it went legit, Hiro as he becomes an adult, "rises to the top of society" and does away with any and all laws forbidding polygamy.
And if ever Musashimaru-sensei produces such a sequel, I trust to be there to *koff-koff* read it.
