By the time page 16 rolled along, I got the impression that Okaa-san was (perhaps unconsciously) "getting too close" (know-what-I-mean) to her son; hence his rebellion and seemingly pushing her away.

Kami-sama Alone Knows how many more *a-hem* "lies, half-truths and innuendoes" Kyouko might have thrown at Tanaka, had this story gone on longer. At the very least he got some *a-hem, again* "compensation" for letting her stay for one night ... although it seems that she seemed to like it so much that she says she'll be back. IRL, "RED ALERT!" ... in the H-Universe, the male protagonist gets his due in the end.
