If someone puts in some random saying like 'you pulling my chain' or some other American saying, I flip out like crazy.Well, sometimes phrases are used that would sound pretty silly if translated literally. So you have to use a phrase that retains the meaning, but flows better in English. Totally depends on the context though.
I think using the word noob in manga is pretty awkward though, I assume it doesn't revolve about gaming or anything sci-fi? I mean, the Japanese do have words like that of course, but I never saw that anywhere.
You gotta check the raws to see if it was a fault on the translator's part or not.
