I don't think people realize that the amount of nuclear waste that has been produced so far is minuscule (Navy claims about a football field 6 feet high of waste). Coal power produces far more waste than nuclear power. I'm pretty sure most of the nuclear waste this country produces is still stored on site. Because of the general publics fear of nuclear power, the power plants are so highly regulated that a nuclear meltdown is very unlikely.
Yeah, when you actually read about Nuclear Plants, you realize just how safe it really is. A meltdown is just as likely to occur as you getting hit by a car flying through the air... in Africa.
