I'm rather glad you made this topic, as the thought had not occurred to me before now. I've been slowly realizing it up to now, but all the stories in the doujins and mangas I've downloaded over the years all have the same plot line. In a way I imagine that the content of the things we download reflect on what we wish would happen to us.

One word; Escapism. Those sucky plots might not be of any value to you, but to a lot of people half the reason they immerse themselves in those 'shitty' stories is because they can place themselves into that unbelievable situation.
Art with a mix of story, certain artists have styles that I love, but their idea of a story is either non-existent, or pisses me off.
